Waking up every morning to the most magnificent view 2500 meters above sea level. It took most of us the first few days to adjust to the altitude and to practicing this high up. But it really forced us all to be really aware of our breath, and to walk slower, move slower, eat slower. Being here, we are constantly reminded of how powerful Mother Nature is, and that we can only adapt to it, work with it, respect it. Really hope to bring some of this back home. I’d rather spend 2 hours falling in my handstands than to try and “meditate” for 10 minutes. ✨New Class Alert✨ Lately, I’ve been lingering in my comfort zone. Same classes and routine. Flowing comfortably within the rhythm, but at times, finding myself just going through the motions. That’s not where I want to live. This year, at 7 years old, we found out from our last vet visit that @abbieschnauzerphair is considered a “senior” dog 😱😱😱and as much as I’m in constant denial that she’s growing older (and will leave us one day...😭😭😭) @jonathanphair and I made extra efforts this summer to enjoy time together outdoors and to make sure she doesn’t waste her short life waiting at home for us. And as I also get older, I am being more and more careful with my sun exposure (no more turning crispy brown in the ☀️), that means constantly subjecting my skin to sunscreen. I do crave structure and routine. It provides a foundation for growth, discipline, and calmness. I like waking up knowing what I have to do and what’s expected of me. A defined schedule allows me to work towards my goals, see the progress I make, and to build (connections, skills, relationships) in this rooted position. But I also need something to balance out this structure. To stay inspired. To stay motivated. Otherwise, my vision becomes too narrow. My energy becomes stagnant. My “why” becomes too self-serving. I focus too much on things and “values” that don’t really matter to me, and get pulled into thinking only “THIS” can make me happy or “THAT” means success. When I feel that a shift is needed, the quickest way to lift myself out is to look back at times when I explored new places and experienced different cultures. ✨“Soham”✨ Inhale “So” Exhale “Ham” “I am that” One of the first #mantras that I was taught, and back then, I needed a lot of help to sit still and focus on “so little.” It’s still a struggle now, but I no longer sit there wondering WHY I need to do this and WHEN I’m going to start feeling the “benefits” of meditation 😂 I have been a very slow learner in this aspect of the practice, but so grateful I didn’t give up. But if you’re like me, and need something “to do” while first starting to meditate, try using a mantra; it can be anything you want, it can be a self-affirmation phrase, it can be religious, it can be whatever you are comfortable with. Just start with something you feel good about! And if you want, use a mala so you can keep track of time and how many times you’ve repeated your mantra, and infuse your intention into the mala. I have my @dariadayjewelry mala with me in this pic; count the beads with the right hand (without using the index finger 🙅🏻‍♀️) and move your way around the mala in one direction, and once you reach the guru bead, turn the mala around and reverse the direction! 📿📿📿📿📿 @jonathanphair and I lead meditation classes at @myhoame, so if your curious about this practice, join us for a class there!!
