Hi everyone… I’m back. Well, to be honest I’m not very sure if I am. Before Toffee’s death I was sharing with you my journey of trying to “un-stick” my life and I was really trying my best. You guys shared with me advice, tips, tricks, everything to help that feeling of being overwhelmed and empty. I was really starting to get there too, listening to audio books, doing brainstorming charts, anything to help get me to the place where I felt clear in what I wanted to do with this journey. When Toffee died that all came crumbling down. I couldn’t make sense of any of it anymore. Do I sound whiny, am I droning on? Is there a point? I’m still not sure of any of it. I don’t have any answers. But I wanted to let you know I am still here, I desperately want to be here, write, make something of myself on this platform. And If you are still here thank you. You all are the best. I’ll do the best for you, for Toffee, and for Pumps. Xox

One of the things that is bringing us comfort is knowing these two rascals are having one hell of a pizza party. It’s been so incredibly tough, I get weepy every now and then, and our 4 year old speaks about her daily which is lovely but also heartbreaking. The second photo of our girl before we had to say goodbye. My husband and I were both wrecked but I’m so glad we have this photo. We miss her so much. 12 years of our Toffee Bear. It is with tears pouring down my face and immense sadness that I share with you the news that our beloved, beautiful, kind, loveable, Toffee has left us. Will and I are utterly ruined and we still can’t believe our old girl is gone. She left us two days ago and I know she is now having the most epic pizza party with our girl Pumps. Oddly today is the 2 year anniversary of Pumpkins passing and I like to think Pumpkin let Toffee know it was okay to go and that she was waiting for her in the land of endless treats. Toffee gave us 12 incredible years and we loved her so so much. Will and I found her and Oreo on the side of the road and had to fight with their “owners” to take them. Once we rescued them we never looked back, she was always meant to be ours. She has been with us for our entire relationship as a couple, she’s seen us have babies, and even though she wasn’t keen on our first daughter in the beginning, she became the best big sister to our girls. We are utterly broken and I still can’t believe it but I wanted you all to know. So rest well my beautiful Toffee Bear, we miss you so much it hurts. Give Pumpkin a cuddle from us and know we love you endlessly.

We picked two avocados the other day from one of our trees and it was divine. There is really nothing like a fresh avocado. The Bahamian variety here are really deep yellow, so savoury, and just perfect. Every time I cut one open I think of our girl Pumps. As you all know they were her favourite. During lockdown I wrote a little essay about the time I decided to be wild and make a sweet avocado tart (yes it can be done) and it was divine. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with this essay, I had so many projects in mind but I recruited the incredibly talented @clairefletcherillustration to create some images of our girl. Pumpkin the chef? Sure why not! Maybe one day I’ll share the essay and recipe, but for now here is just a lovely memory of our girl. ❤️

I made pancakes today for my older little madam this morning after an incredibly shocking few days. A summer school bug took down our family in a very dramatic way (not covid) and it’s been almost five days of zero sleep with a baby that has literally never been sick. It’s been a doozy. I slept last night from 9.30pm until 5.30am and feel like a completely new woman! The babes were still asleep, husband still asleep, animals still asleep. It was pretty perfect. I made myself tea, went outside and enjoyed the sunrise, then I made nutritious pancakes because let’s be honest, no one had been eating well these past five days it was survival mode for us. While making the pancakes I started remembering Pumps and all the things she loved to eat, including pancakes doused in maple syrup. This was never actually something we gave her but she would steal one or two from us in her classic stealth mode. Her love of food was something very entertaining and were always the photos most of you enjoyed the best. As I type this I’m smiling, and even though chaos is now starting, baby is up, I’m arguing with the four year old about eating her breakfast, snotty husband sneezing constantly, I’ll take it. Because mama slept!
