During October we watch 31 days of Halloween movies/episodes with our kids and it sounds crazy, I know… But it brings us together and into the spirit of All Hallows Eve. Plus, there’s no better way to celebrate the arrival of Halloween than a family movie night and baked goodies, right?! One of the first movies we start with is Hocus Pocus and these pies remind me of the Sanderson sisters “BooOOOook!” with the sleepy eyeballs. These mini pies were scrumptious and ohh so spooktacular! They were the perfect treat to kick off our Halloween traditions. Today #ontheblog I’m sharing with you these mini Spooky Eye Pies with Blueberry Apple filling! It’s the perfect recipe trick, to treat yourself, this Halloween! . . For the full recipe head on over to the blog! https://www.paint-me-pink.com/spooky-eye-pies/ You will also find more Halloween-inspired recipes at the end of the post from some of my blogger friends! Here’s to a spooktacular week of #seasonalsimplicity Halloween recipes. 🎃 . .
Last week was a pretty crazy and exciting for us. Every October 1st, we start our Fall traditions and the kids are in full Halloween mode! 🎃 We started decorating the house (inside and outside), started baking some spooky treats, the house dinner menu has changed to soups and stews, bought pumpkins and started watching our favorite (kid friendly) Halloween movies! Even though there are a million things happening around the house, I always try to make this season special for our kids. What is your favorite Fall tradition? . . "I want to be like a sunflower so that even on the darkest days I will stand tall and find the sunlight." . .
There’s something very special in the air at this time of the year. A crisp autumn breeze, crackling log fires, and bristling leaves, floating delicately towards the ground, inspire many people to cozy-up during this season. I hope you know how I feel about Fall by now… I absolutely adore it! I could live in Fall weather all year round if I could. In the spirit of everything pumpkin spice today I’m sharing with you a Pumpkin Pastry Twist! Just look at those crispy buttery layers with swirls of sweet spiced pumpkin... YUM! Did I mention that they are easy to make too! . . Never stop exploring! Exploring doesn't need to be traveling the world to Instagram worthy locations. Exploring comes within, if you love art then continue to explore the world of art, if baking is your thing then bake away and create something delicious! Remember exploring comes in many different forms and mediums! ❤️ Happy Tuesday friends!! . . “Not all those who wander are lost." - J.R.R. Tolkien . .
There’s something rustic and cozy about Mexican Hot Chocolate that makes you smile no matter what mood you are in. This recipe always brings me back to my childhood. A real special treat was when my mom made a big pot of it in our home! The aroma is heavenly and it filled our home with that chocolatey goodness taste. Today #ontheblog I’m sharing with you our Mexican hot chocolate recipe! My mom would make enough of this Mexican hot chocolate to feed four hungry kids, but I will show you an easy way to make a big batch of rich, decadent authentic Mexican hot chocolate for a crowd! Right in the slow cooker! . . “Love is like swallowing hot chocolate before it has cooled off. It takes you by surprise at first, but keeps you warm for a long time.” -Henri Frederic Amiel . . I truly love being in the kitchen. I love searing, braising, stewing, steaming, baking, roasting, broiling, and grilling. There’s something about being in the kitchen and creating meals for my family that makes me happy. Sometimes it may not go so smoothly but I love the journey of creating something delicious. That brings me to this recipe! I’ve been dying to make Beef Bourguignon for the longest time, but never have, how crazy is that? There are so many well-known recipes that we know of but don’t make! So, today I finally made Beef Bourguignon, and let me tell you it’s the best stew ever!! Why did I wait this long to make it?! . . “A recipe has no soul. You as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe.” -Thomas Keller . . I'm welcoming September with open arms and sunflower kisses 🌻 Sadly for the first time, I'm not ready to leave Summer behind. I'm not ready to take cozy photos and light all the candles. Believe me, Fall is my FAVORITE season, but I'm still in summer mode! That may change in a few weeks 😆 Whether you are ready for Autumn or not, September is the month where Summer transitions into Fall 🍂 Here's to a beautiful September! . . "September days are here, with Summer's best of weather and Autumn's best of cheer."
While many are chasing sunsets, we are chasing the sunrise 🌅 Derrick and I have never been morning people and probably never will be, but today we got up bright and early to catch the sunrise at the beach. Happy Wednesday my friends! • • • "It was sunsets that taught me that beauty sometimes only lasts for a couple of moments, and it was sunrises that showed me that all it takes is patience to experience it all over again."
Hi sweet friends! I've been dying to try out new baking recipes when these Blackout Brownies stopped me right in my tracks... I don't know about you but they look mouthwatering and how can you go wrong with brownies?! You must check out my sweet friend over at @yogaofcooking because she's the queen of all things deliciousness 🧁
This morning my alarm went off at 4:45 am. I wanted to catch the sunrise at Laguna beach. I've done so many sunsets that I figured it was time to do a sunrise photo opportunity. As I'm getting up I check my phone for updates and read some devastating news. 1 Marine dead and 8 more missing after an AAV accident off the California coast. As I'm reading the news my heart sinks to my stomach and my heart goes out to all the families affected by this tragic incident. My husband is part of the company that's training and getting ready to leave on a MEU. A few days ago for some crazy miracle, he was assigned a new task and most likely missed this training session. I am deeply saddened by this tragic accident, if we don’t have a loved one active in the Armed Forces, it’s easy to forget the daily sacrifice and devoted service of our nation’s troops. Their round-the-clock protection of our country at home and abroad puts them in harm’s way in both peace time and in conflict. Most serve multiple deployments away from family, missing precious milestones, and whole seasons of marriage and parenting. Their families back home learn to pick up the slack and stay strong while remaining constantly flexible. These are our sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, co-workers, friends, and neighbors. We owe our freedom and security not only to those who have served but also to those who continue to protect. Our while our Armed Forces have made a commitment to duty, honor, and country, our country out to make a commitment to support and pray for them.
