I HAD TO BE THE BEST Growing up... I was known for being THE athlete. The fastest runner The best coordination The hardest worker on the court The most reliable, consistent player The Best on ground, the best player of the year. And I would KILL myself trying to uphold this expectation. Everyone had good intentions of course.... I just so happened to be a great athlete. But I would literally run until I was sick to my stomach and then I would run further. Because I HAD to be the best. One sports day I HAD to enter on every single event. Just had to. I remember one sports day I felt the pressure from my peers so badly. The expectations that I would win this and win that. I was so tired of people telling me I was going to win.... because what if I didn't...? I FAKED I WAS SICK. I couldn't do it. I couldn't show up and lose. So I just didn't go. Fitness was my 1 thing I was great at. That's what I thought anyway... So I procrastined with school work. I didn't try my best at study. Reading was a struggle for me.. I would often fake being sick so I didn't have to go to school, despite my mum being a school teacher. As an adult I have learned that I CAN actually be great at other things. Not just fitness. So I want to remind you. Just because you are GREAT at something... doesn't mean that HAS to be your only thing. you CAN be great at any other thing you're interested in. There is MORE to you than just what you are NATURALLY good at. You do not have to just fit into 1 box if you don't want to. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE A CAREER OUT OF SOMETHING YOU ARE GREAT AT. Especially when things get hard. Does this sound familiar... ➡️ I can't do it ➡️ That could never be me ➡️ I'll try, but I dont think I'll be any good ➡️ It's too hard In other words... ➡️ I dont want to attempt incase I fail, so I'll just say I can't ➡️ I'm not good enough to achieve something at that level ➡️ Im afraid to fail so I'll set the expectations for myself low and make sure you expect the same from me ➡️ I cant be bothered persisting with this and figuring out how to do it I order to do ANYTHING great, self belief is key. Holding high expectations for yourself is what will take you to that next level, in whatever pursuit you have. Its important to understand that the result wont happen overnight. But that's the funny thing about growth... the RESULT isnt where the growth happens. The JOURNEY is where the magic is... HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR JOURNEY? ➡️If you are repeatedly failing over and over... perhaps your expectations dont match your effort or your strategy. Perhaps you need to increase your effort or change your strategy. Be honest with yourself and asses your effort. Become more educated on a better route and then attack your goal again with a more effective strategy. ➡️If you are cruising, but not growing, perhaps you need to increase your expectations and set yourself a challange. Reflect on what you have achieved so far and build confidence from that. Set yourself a new set of goals & expectations that require you to push yourself to that next level. Think of it like trying buying a house when you have no deposit saved. You are going to have to have some time where your focus is on savings... which means sacrifices will have to be made. 𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐄𝐅𝐓 𝐃𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊 𝐃𝐎𝗪𝐍 - kind of counting calories and macros - under eating protein - taco Tuesdays - pad thai - pizza - red wine 4x a week ish - hardly any weight training - walking 𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 - tracking calories and macros - adequate protein - 80% clean eating wholefoods - eating out 1x per wk - no tacos, pad thai or pizza - glass of wine.... maybe 1x a month - 5-6 days of weight training - walking Fitness goals are like any. ✔If you want it bad enough you will make the 𝐒𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐒 necessary. ✖If not. You'll find 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 not to. Yes... some people do achieve their goals in unhealthy ways... but ultimately. You better believe they are making sacrifices. And that's what I love about fitness.... ➡️There is no cheating it. You just cant cheat. ➡️Only hard work and sacrifices which require discipline and willpower. I respect that.💗 I also want to mention that you dont have to sacrifice FOREVER. NO. Just until you reach your goal and then it's a matter of MAINTAINING until you set your next goal.
