DAY 365: InsideOut references Alice In Wonderland. "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for the famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize, only now do I truly understand what it means. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. So i shall live by this principle from now on, and leave no flavor left untasted nor restaurant left forgotten. For it is that, what we owe to eachother."- BABI #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife #gayhot #like #follow #trans #transgender #instagood #dragqueen #boy #gaystagram #gayfollow #drag #selfie #bhfyp

DAY 364: Klaus Nomi references René Le Somptier. ¨Klaus Nomi is an easy artist to eulogize. The German-born East Village fixture’s striking, self-made look and soaring operatic countertenor—in layman’s terms, he sang really, really high—brought him to the attention of culture vulture supreme David Bowie. Nomi famously performed with the Thin White Duke on “Saturday Night Live,” hoping for a full collaboration that never materialized. A deal with Bowie’s label RCA, however, enabled Nomi to release two albums abroad before his death, from complications due to AIDS, in 1983. From ANOHNI’s angelic warble to Janelle Monáe’s sci-fi tuxedos, it isn’t hard to find Nomi’s legacy in pop’s outer reaches. Klaus Nomi, his 1981 debut album, affords us an entirely different opportunity: celebrating Nomi’s music rather than his myth. When an album’s repertoire goes from Man Parrish to Chubby Checker to Camille Saint-Saëns, it’s hard to look anywhere but the music. As beautiful as Nomi was, it’s worth peeling your eyes away from the ghost-white makeup, mountain-range hairstyle, and Tristan Tzara tux to see the truly gifted musician beneath.¨- BABI #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife #gayhot #like #follow #trans #transgender #instagood #dragqueen #boy #gaystagram #gayfollow #drag #selfie #bhfyp

DAY 363 TriStar references Columbia. "To know the origin of the name Columbia we have to travel back all the way to 1738 when it was published in the weekly publication of the debates of the British Parliament. It was forbidden to print the debates and to camouflage this they were published as Reports of the Debates of the Senate of Lilliput. Fictional names were thought up for other countries and Columbia was the one used for America, the one responsible for this is most probably Samuel Johnson. The name finally became the female personification of America and was chosen to be the name and logo of the company. It is not completely clear however on which woman Columbia has been based. Several women have claimed to be the inspiration, but a conclusive answer was never found."- Babi #art #artist #drawing #artwork #love #photography #painting #illustration #design #sketch #digitalart #artistsoninstagram #instagood #arte #draw #photooftheday #fashion #like #instaart #music #contemporaryart #beautiful #instagram #fanart #nature #follow #photo #picoftheday #handmade #bhfyp

DAY 362: CLUE references CLUE. "I am far from alone, but as is the case for so many movies with devoted cult followings, you either get Clue or you don't. For 20 years, whenever I have declared the film as one of my favorites in mixed company, one of two things happens: One, the conversation is seized with a mutual recounting of favorite lines and exchanges written by first-time writer-director Jonathan Lynn, matched with breathless impersonations of Tim Curry as the officious butler Wadsworth; Michael McKean as the closeted State Department employee Mr. Green; Madeline Kahn as the possibly mariticidal widow Mrs. White; Christopher Lloyd as the horndog psychiatrist Professor Plum; Lesley Ann Warren as the Washington, D.C., madam Miss Scarlet; Martin Mull as the blowhard war profiteer Colonel Mustard; Eileen Brennan as the batty senator's wife Mrs. Peacock; and Colleen Camp as the buxom French maid Yvette. Or, two, I am greeted with a gaze akin to if I had proclaimed monkey's brains to be my favorite recipe: Really? You love that?"- BABI #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife #gayhot #like #follow #trans #transgender #instagood #dragqueen #boy #gaystagram #gayfollow #drag #selfie #bhfyp

DAY 361: Sabrina references Charmed. "One of the series’ best characters, Mary Wardwell (Michelle Gomez), a.k.a. Madam Satan, a.k.a. Lilith, is also not given as much to do this season since Sabrina is now ensconced in the Academy. That’s unfortunate for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that her character has done a complete flip in her relationship with the young half-witch. In the first season, Wardwell served as a mentor to Sabrina, encouraging her towards the Path of Night as part of Satan’s plan for her. But now Wardwell knows that Satan has big plans for Sabrina, ones that could supplant her own position with the Dark Lord (or so she believes). As such, Wardwell is encouraging Sabrina to embrace her Light nature and not do the Dark Lord’s bidding, stoking the defiance that fueled Sabrina through the first season. That should be a funny and interesting storyline, but it’s not given much consideration or time, with Wardwell instead shoved into a sudden love story rather than a more interesting exploration of her position as the new principal of Baxter High. (Especially when it comes to the casual use of magic — something the show has totally dropped)."- Alison Keene - #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife #gayhot #like #follow #trans #transgender #instagood #dragqueen #boy #gaystagram #gayfollow #drag #selfie #bhfyp

DAY 360: Scream Queens references Psycho. "Scream Queens never has been and never was going to be a show that worked for everyone. From the start, its sense of humor, its "girls are better" commentary and its writing style were divisive; either you found it hilarious and were on board for its wonky ride, or you were turned off from the get-go and weren't going to tune back in."- BABI #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife #gayhot #like #follow #trans #transgender #instagood #dragqueen #boy #gaystagram #gayfollow #drag #selfie #bhfyp

DIA 359: Alfonso Crujera hace referencia a Francisco Goya.

DAY 358: Avatar (mis)references Full Metal Jacket. ¨Avatar. The highest grossing movie of all time for a decade. Nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. It was a cinematic experience adored by critics and audiences showered in praise for its mind-blowing, bar-raising special effects that once again raised the bar for what is possible on the big screen. The world of Avatar is starting to enter the pop-culture collective consciousness again thanks to a new theme park attraction and the sequels finally coming to fruition. It seems like James Cameron isn’t done with the world of Pandora. But does anyone really want a return trip? Wasn’t Avatar kind of terrible? A derivative, painfully thin story bereft of originality with some painful, cringe-inducing dialogue? It makes sense that the world of Pandora would become a theme park attraction. That’s what Avatar was: a two-hour ride through Pandora. A beautifully staged world that was a marvel to look at. While it was a feast for your eyes it was a barb-wire wrapped q-tip to your ears. I could spend time talking about how much of Avatar felt cribbed from Dances With Wolves, Pocahontas, FernGully, the writings of Poul Anderson, and the paintings of Roger Dean. But the unoriginal nature of the movie was even admitted to by James Cameron, so why bother beating a dead banshee?¨- Angus Honduras #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife #gayhot #like #follow #trans #transgender #instagood #dragqueen #boy #gaystagram #gayfollow #drag #selfie #bhfyp

DAY 357: Ray Bradbury references Mary Mape Dodges. "According to Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451 is not about censorship but about technology — more specifically, about the role of mindless television on society; the new opiate of the masses. Through the book, Bradbury wanted to show people that mindless, endless television was (is?) not a substitute for literature and reading. Apart from the wall-mounted television sets (which he predicted in the book in 1953), he also predicted that other constant purveyor of entertainment and communication: the in-ear headphones (Air Pods anyone?) that he called ‘thimbles’, which also helped keep the populace too busy to think."- BABI #likes #like #follow #likeforlikes #love #l #instagood #instagram #followme #likeforlike #likeforfollow #followforfollowback #f #followers #instalike #photooftheday #followback #likesforlikes #photography #followforfollow #comment #picoftheday #fashion #liker #bhfyp #likeback #likesforlike #me #beautiful #bhfyp

DAY 356: BTS references Carl Jung. ¨Map of the Soul: 7 is their most smashing album yet, showing off their mastery of different pop styles from rap bangers to slow-dance ballads to post-Swedish electro-disco to prog-style philosophizing. The seven members have been together seven years, and it’s inspired them to sum up where they’ve been even as they look ahead to their future. A few of the songs are already familiar from last year’s teaser EP, Map of the Soul: Persona—the thugged-out hip-hop bluster of “Dionysus,” the surprising Ed Sheeran co-write “Make It Right.” In “Intro: Persona,” RM drops the English word “superhero” into his Korean rap—he used to dream of being one, then he became one, but now he finds the work has just begun. On such a broad and diverse 74-minute trip, the stylistic experiments flow together, which is why the Persona songs sound more at home in this context—BTS always work best with a wider thematic canvas.¨- Rob Sheffield - #bts #kpop #jungkook #jimin #army #suga #jin #jhope #blackpink #taehyung #btsarmy #v #rm #exo #bangtanboys #kimtaehyung #bangtansonyeondan #parkjimin #twice #jeonjungkook #minyoongi #kimseokjin #kimnamjoon #bangtan #bt #namjoon #junghoseok #yoongi #btsedits #bhfyp

DAY 355: Lady Gaga references Zombie Zombie. ¨“Venus,” which was pushed to not-really-a-single-status following the runaway success of promo-single-turned-actual-single “Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)” (DURRWHACHURAH WIMMAH BAHHHHDAY) is all of the things. It’s sort of like if “Judas” was sent into space in 1974, did some LSD in a gay bar on Mars and then came back to tell the tale. Like everything Gaga’s ever done, the song’s a scavenger hunt of references to the past: The first line is an interpolation of jazz artist Sun Ra‘s. The delivery style, like those “Applause” verses, is very much David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. And the structure of the verses is sort of like Bananarama‘s own “Venus.” The production’s tight (thanks Gaga), and the beats sound sick. But it’s all about them intergalactic earworm hooks. There are 4 hooks in the song, so sayeth Sister Swine: There’s the aforementioned Bananarama-y verses. There’s that moment where the beat drops out, serving that early ’90’s club euphoria banger. There’s the stomping martian build-up (“Take me to your planet! Take me to your Venus!” — and yes, she really, really knows you’re singing “penis” there.) And then, there’s the real chorus. Once she hits her stride with the true chorus, it’s total pop euphoria: “When you touch me I die just a little inside / I wonder if this could be love!” That’s a fucking hook! That chorus is “Bad Romance”-level good. You see, no matter how weird Gaga gets with her music, she’ll always bring it back to that undeniably massive pop chorus. But don’t miss out on that bridge, either: In the market for some campy fun? Try Gaga’s intergalactic round-up, effectively turning each planet into a queen on RuPaul’s Drag Race: “Uranus / Don’t you know my ass is famous?! / Mars, now serve for the Gods!” And so, there’s “Peni — sorry, “Venus,” a track just weird and stupid and messy and catchy enough to work. Had it been released just a few months prior, it would have certainly Sandra Bullock‘s favorite track to bump in her Gravity spacesuit.¨- Brenda Lujan #gay #instagay #lgbt #gayboy #lgbtq #pride #love #lesbian #loveislove #queer #gayman #gaypride #gayguy #bisexual #gaymen #gaylove #gaylife

DAY 354: Taylor Swift references Kurt Vonnegut. ¨Jokes and death - and specifically jokes about death - are perhaps the simplest way of summing up the life and work of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. The truth is necessarily more complex, but Vonnegut was a writer whose insistence on straight-talking - despite the superficial tricks and elaborations of his novels - became a central credo, a way of registering his anger and bewilderment at the harm visited upon innocents by nations, governments and corporations seeking to shore up their power through obfuscation and cant. If one of his aims was to provide a voice for those innocents, his method of making himself heard was both courageous and effective; he told us the hardest of truths, but in the gentlest, funniest and most amiable way he knew how. He was, to use his own word, a 'sap'. His time as a prisoner during WW2 provided him with the basis for his most celebrated novel, Slaughterhouse-Five, which appeared almost 25 years later and contained the phrase that became most closely associated with him and that could most fittingly serve as his epitaph: 'So it goes.' The words recur throughout the book each time a death is recorded and what they imply lies at the centre of any understanding of Vonnegut's work: fatalism, stoicism and the acceptance that no use will come of shrinking away when the worst has happened. Questioned repeatedly over the decades about whether he thought Dresden should have been bombed, Vonnegut's most significant response was that it had been bombed; the question for him was how one behaved after that. Slaughterhouse-Five, whose alternative title is 'The Children's Crusade: A Duty-Dance with Death', rejects a conventional narrative, presenting its episodes in deliberately jumbled and fragmentary fashion and introducing the perspective of the inhabitants of the planet Tralfamadore, for whom time is not linear; our ability to properly apprehend events such as Dresden, Vonnegut suggests, is hampered rather than enhanced by our insistence on placing them in a historical framework.¨- BABI #taylorswift #lover #selenagomez #ts #arianagrande #swifties #taylor #swiftie #reputation #taylornation #swift
