Fun fact: I’ve owned the same pair of @lululemon leggings for 16 years 🙌🏻⁣ ⁣ They may not have always fit well (these aren’t no sisterhood of the travelling pants kind of pants), but they’ve lasted through the years.⁣ ⁣ After Thursday’s pink gymshark outfit disaster I decided that I would invest in some workout wear that fit well and was flattering. Lord knows I work out enough - and I want to look good while doing it!⁣ ⁣ I went with the 28” align pants. They’re super soft and the rise is high (the higher the better!!!) I also picked up a Free to be serene bra and an energy bra. One of the most critical factors of losing weight or gaining muscle is managing EXPECTATIONS.⁣ ⁣ You expect that making huge changes to your diet is going to result in fast, consistent weight loss. ⁣ ⁣ When this doesn’t happen it can leave you feeling, well, pretty damn defeated.⁣ ⁣ My expectation: adding in workouts with a trainer would result in an athletic build in 6-12 months.⁣ ⁣ When the visible changes didn’t happen I 100% felt defeated. Here I was doing all the right things but had EXPECTATIONS that weren’t even achievable.⁣ ⁣ My reality was that I had never had muscles. Even at 128 lbs (see the first picture) there were no abs, no biceps, and love handles. Man I look like such a baby here - age 22.⁣ ⁣ There’s no muscle memory here. No overnight results from 60 lbs overweight (see pic 2) to bikini competitor with ripped muscles.⁣ ⁣ The truth is that if having a muscular body is something I truly want, it’s going to take A LOT of time and energy. Not months but YEARS. A LOT of uncomfortable moments, self doubt, and pushing past mental and physical hurdles.⁣ ⁣ Thank god I’m enjoying this journey because I’m here for it all! Living for those uncomfortable moments where changes start happening 🙌🏻⁣ ⁣ Don’t let your EXPECTATIONS derail your long term success. What’s up!? My name is Joanna and I put on makeup just for this picture 🙋🏼‍♀️⁣ ⁣ I started sharing my weight loss journey on social media back in 2016. I needed the accountability and the community of others on similar journeys.⁣ ⁣ Have you been around since the beginning or are you new here!?⁣ ⁣ Since losing 60 lbs following the #keto Diet, I’ve now been in maintenance (I think) for a few years. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve gone from a couch potato to someone who exercises daily. From throwing back litres of Diet Pepsi a day to choosing water. From crispy chicken sandwiches and french fries to salads. And loving it! (Really!)⁣ ⁣ 3 years in I’ve been struggling lately from the patience required to see actual body composition changes but overall I’m feeling quite positive about how far I’ve come and the direction I’m heading.⁣ ⁣ I’m all about that growth mindset and love pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I’m a level two improv student which is... extremely uncomfortable but I’m becoming a better listener as a result. ⁣ ⁣ I’ve really started to become more involved with my community this past year with the SJA Therapy Dog program. I’m training to become an in-school mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters to teach girls about being active, healthy nutrition, and building a positive self image.⁣ ⁣ I’m also a big advocate for blood donation (it’s in you to give 🙌🏻).⁣ ⁣ Oh and I case you’re really new here, I’m 35 years old and a mom of two wicked kids Carter, age 5 and Taylor, age 9. Starting to find my groove in the gym and loving today’s back workout from @natepicknell ⁣ ⁣ One benefit to working out with a trainer is reduced rest times. Nate really pushes me to keep moving and I needed that push today. ⁣ ⁣ 4 Sets - All the PULLING!⁣ ⁣ 🔹10 reps - one arm lateral pull down (per arm)⁣ 🔹10 reps - lat pull down⁣ 🔹10 reps - reverse grip pull down⁣ 🔹 5 reps - seated cable row with 5 second hold⁣ 🔹10 reps - single arm pull down (per arm)⁣ ⁣ Finish up with 3 sets of 30 second mountain climbers followed by 30 second plank.⁣ ⁣ #backworkout #backday #pullworkout #fitnesscanada #momswhoworkout

A year ago I went to a hot yoga class with a friend and decided that I was wearing my sports bra.⁣ ⁣ No t-shirt, no tank top. It was time to rock a sports bra.⁣ ⁣ I remember feeling super exposed at the time even in the dark room with only a few people there.⁣ ⁣ But it felt great because it was something I had always wanted to do. Finding peace with my body, my skin, and not worrying about what other people would think.⁣ ⁣ It’s like wearing a bikini at the beach - totally functional and appropriate no matter your size. The same goes for fitness clothes.⁣ ⁣ There’s nothing holding you back from wearing what you want besides your own insecurities. We all have stretch marks, scars, and places where our bodies are soft and squishy.⁣ ⁣ That one experience, out of my comfort zone turned into the way I preferred to dress while working out. ⁣ ⁣ It’s motivating to see your muscles when you’re lifting weights! Also less laundry 😂⁣ ⁣ Sometimes I still feel a touch uncomfortable, like when my male co-workers are working out at the same time as me 😂 or when it gets cold 🥶and nipply in the gym 🤷🏼‍♀️⁣ ⁣ If you’re thinking you’d like to work out in a bra top just rip off the bandaid and go for it! Today’s workout kicked my ass so much so that my face was still red two hours later!⁣ ⁣ Check out my stories to get the workout that you can do yourself at home! Do you get frustrated when you see other people losing weight quickly?⁣ ⁣ You’re tracking your food, moving your body, drinking water like you never have before and yet you’re not seeing the results you think you’ve earned.⁣ ⁣ What’s the point of going without your favourite foods, getting uncomfortable and sweaty, and peeing 15 times a day (💦) if the scale isn’t going to reflect your efforts! Right!?⁣ ⁣ 1. Stop comparing your weight loss results to others. Focus on your own body and and the direction of your own life instead of the bodies of your spouse, friends, co-workers etc. ⁣ ⁣ 2. Living a healthy lifestyle by making smart food choices, moving your body, and hydrating WILL result in improved health. Don’t even question it. Those actions alone will transform your body if you can just exercise patience.⁣ ⁣ 3. Don’t get in your head! Work as hard on your mental health as you do on your physical health. Learn how to push self deprecating thoughts to the side.⁣ ⁣ You do deserve this, you do belong in the gym, you are capable of replacing habits that don’t support your goals with habits that do.⁣ ⁣ It’s not easy but 100% worth it. Setting your mind to a goal and struggling, grasping, and grinding to reach it. That #sweatlife 😅💪🏻⁣ ⁣ I had limited time for my workout today so I cut back on my rest time between sets. This created a super sweaty situation 🙌🏻⁣ ⁣ If you’re heading to the gym - make sure you’re pushing yourself! If you think you can lift heavier you probably can!⁣ ⁣ I used to feel so confused. How do people know what weights to use? I was excited to see a yogurt advertised on tv that I could work for a ketogenic lifestyle.⁣ ⁣ I was never a yogurt and granola type person before switching to Keto, but as someone who doesn’t eat eggs my breakfast options have been limited for years now.⁣ ⁣ Tried something new today. Breakfast was yogurt, raw pecans, and some blueberries. Added bacon on the side for more fat and protein and it rounded out to some decent macros. Swipe left to see the macros (add the bacon 😉).⁣ ⁣ I added a big glass of cold water on the side and I’m feeling really satisfied. Like I kicked off my Monday with a healthy start.⁣ ⁣ The yogurt is Danone’s No Sugar Added and I found it at Zehrs. It only took 3 years 😳⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Grabbed myself a blood ketone meter, thanks to @ketomojo and I’m feeling like a scientist over here 👩‍🔬 😍⁣⁣ ⁣ Have you ever measured your ketone levels with a blood meter?⁣ ⁣⁣ My fingers also hurt from all the tests I’ve been doing this week 😂 Sometimes poking my finger hurts and other times it’s completely painless.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’ve been learning about things like the “dawn effect” which is a naturally occurring increase in blood sugars in the morning.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Some other things I’ve done is some food sensitivity testing which is a way to tell if certain foods effect your level of ketones or your blood sugar.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ These meters aren’t cheap but if you’re into numbers and learning more about how certain foods effects your body, it’s worth looking into.
