I am a huge advocate for EXERCISE That it is a phenomenal tool for self-empowerment. That it can and SHOULD be used as a gratitude practice for your body, and first and foremost as a tool to care for your HEALTH! And that health is not just physical. But what about when you can’t? I haven’t trained in two weeks— this is the longest break from exercise I have had in six years. Even other times when I have de-loaded or taken a couple weeks off from lifting, I was still moving my body in exercise in other ways. This time, I needed to rest. At first, the lack of training brought longing, stress, frustration, and growing anxiety. As someone whose go-to tool for coping, stress relief, grounding, and gratitude is exercise.. I am not ashamed or afraid to admit that I initially felt frustration with my need to rest. Until I realized how hypocritical my stress was. If my base purpose for exercise is TRULY first and foremost to care for my health— feeling stress, anxiety, and even guilt for resting when my body NEEDED rest, was in direct opposition to my reason for exercise in the first place. All stress and frustration dissipated when I reminded myself that RESTING when my body needs rest IS honoring my body and taking care of my HEALTH These past two weeks I became just as grounded and grateful for my body in my rest as I typically am in my workouts. I often challenge you to do ONE thing each day to care for your health, as the basis for your fitness journey. This is your reminder that not every day will that mean crushing a workout. And on the days it doesn’t, BE JUST AS PROUD OF YOURSELF FOR RESTING Please remember that exercise is not the ONLY way to care for your health. It is not the only tool you have for self-empowerment, self-love, and growth. Meditation Breathwork Journaling Nourishing nutrition ADEQUATE SLEEP Quality time with loved ones Therapy Creating something I’m feeling better! And I am beginning this week with a renewed gratitude not only for a quick recovery, a healthy family, and the ability to begin training again.
