Round, hard ‘beer’ belly - what is it, and why it’s super super super bad. Like, really bad. It’s super ‘Australian’ and you ole boy might even be proud of his gut. But let's face it, we all love a few beers on the weekend with the boys, over time though how does it get there? How bodyfat works in the belly Skin on the outside Then subcutaneous fat, Then your abdominal muscles, Then visceral fat, Then your organs. I’ll make it real easy, Soft belly - more subcutaneous fat. Hard - your pushing against your abs. That is real real real bad. Big belly + hard stomach = you have a lot of visceral fat. Visceral means deep. Like, on your organs. That means you get non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or are way more likely for heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, etc. When people come into JCF with a low body weight and huge waist measurement, we freak out. The good side? Visceral fat tends to go first, so if you catch it before it makes you unwell, you may mitigate the damage. Lots of it is genetics, its not always booze, but alcohol is so calorie heavy - its often in the mix If you know someone with a beer gut, do them a favour and help, in any way you can.
