its not okay. nothing that is happening currently is okay. police brutality is not okay. racial and class inequality is not okay. unfair distribution of powers is not okay. the militarization of our police forces is not okay. and silence is not okay. i’m a white kid from the suburbs. i’ve never in my life had to experience anything remotely close to the systemic prejudice that black people experience in this country on a daily basis. i’ve never HAD to be aware of the unfairness of this world, because its never affected me personally. but i’m painfully aware of it anyways, because that is what personal responsibility means. just because something doesn’t affect you directly, doesn’t mean it ceases to exist. i know you, middle america. i know exactly what you stand for. you love to turn a blind eye when you see injustice, because it doesn’t affect you. you love to ignore the underlying issues and say blanket statements like, “we don’t have all the facts...if only they were being peaceful...that’s what they get for burning shit down...” you love your netflix, your family dinners, and your complacency. but the veil has been lifted for our society, whether you like it or not. you’re on the same social media as me, which means you are seeing the exact same shit that i’m seeing. and if you’re not saying anything, if you’re scrolling past all of it, you’re willingly ignoring the issue because it makes you uncomfortable. but i’m glad you’re uncomfortable. i’m uncomfortable even as i type this. but guess what? that’s the fucking point. do better. #georgefloyd #justiceforgeorgefloyd #blm #blacklivesmatter #nojusticenopeace #itsnotokay
