The view at dawn after spending a frosty night camping in the Mount Barney saddle (1087m or 3566ft) and heading up the East peak (1359m or 4459ft) for sunrise. The shot was taken about five minutes before reaching the summit. I have wanted to get a dawn shot here since climbing here as a teenager (way back in the 90's) as it perfectly layers the foreground ridge with Mount Ernest (964m or 3163ft ) sandwiched in the middle and Mount Lindesay (1175m or 3855ft) at the back. Once the sun has risen there is too much contrast and the boundaries between the layers start to silhouette. Mount Lindesay straddles the Queensland / New South Wales border and is situated both within the Mount Barney National Park in Queensland and the Border Ranges National Park in New South Wales. I was fortunate enough to have the chance to cycle the 15km dirt loop (9.3 miles) around the base of Uluru / Ayers Rock with my two sons. It really lets you appreciate just how large the rock is. Clancy rode his own bike, but I rented one of those crazy tandem bikes so Augie who was just four at the time could just cruse along on a seat behind me. A male Green Iguana (Iguana iguana) hanging out in a tree in Fort de France, Martinique. As impressive as it is these guys pose a threat to the endemic Lesser Antillean Iguana that is currently endangered. The Green Iguana is found over large portions of South and Central America and some parts of the Caribbean. They have been aggressively expanding their ranges hitching rides between the islands on ocean flotsam. In 1995 after a series of hurricanes a raft of uprooted trees carrying 15 or more green iguanas landed on the eastern side of Anguilla, an island where green iguanas had never been recorded before. These iguanas had rafted 200 miles across the ocean from Guadeloupe. After reviewing weather and ocean currents it was estimated that new iguanas must have spent about three weeks at sea before bumping up on the island. Grand Etang Lake is a crater lake perched on top of an extinct volcano at 530 m (1,740 ft) above sea level. We are coming up to four months now in Grenada since we arrived. Somewhere we never expected to be let alone spend so much time. Grenada has been a particularly kind host to foreign yachts stranded at sea during the pandemic; for this we will forever be grateful. Much more than I can say for our home country which has even restricted the rights of their own citizens to return though a quota system leaving tens of thousands essentially stranded for months on end. I am not sure I will ever look at the flag flying off the back of our boat in the same way. That Grenada has remained Covid free for over three months now despite welcoming people of all flags though their quarantine program is a testament to how a well run quarantine program can function.
