Here are some gallery shots from Burn for the Moon! Soon I’ll stop yapping on about it... The show runs Wed-Sat till Nov 7. Have an oat milk flat white at @dailydailycoffee for energy, and have a look I reckon. Thanks to everyone who has already been, I’m still feeling very overwhelmed 💫☄️🌙
Thanks everyone for coming last night! Extremely overwhelming to see so many people I love in that room. (NZ has no community cases of COVID it’s fine it’s fine) I’ve also been working on this sculpture since June and am glad it came together, I wanted to try something a bit different as I’ve been making a bit of jewellery and this seemed like a development of that. Well, IT WAS WAY HARDER but I love it! The base is made from old Tōtara piles which came out of a railway shed in Morrinsville, built in the late 1800's. One hundred thank yous to @petley_ for making the base for me, and to @cyndtan and @zeldamurray for advice. Bronze and Tōtara, 390 x 120 x 120mm, Edition of One, 2020. Burn for the Moon runs until Nov 7, open Wed-Sat, @melanierogergallery.
Burn for the Moon opens TONIGHT! 5:30-7:30pm, @melanierogergallery. All welcome! The show is open Wed-Sat till Nov 7. In Pieces, 600 x 750mm, Oil on Canvas, 2020. I’d like to thank the following people for their help- @jamesklowe for taking most of the beautiful reference pics I used, @nicolemillerwong, @mx_quu and @cyndtan, @katie.hughes3, Ashton and @solaris_gardens, and my sister @lucyfunaki for picking up and dropping off. I’m very grateful and aware of the privilege I have by being able to keep working on this show this appalling year, in and out of lockdowns, and I hope you enjoy it.
Burn for the Moon has been HUNG! It looks so good you guuuuuuysssssss, see you Wed 🌙☄️💫
➡️➡️➡️ This is the first (and most ambitious) piece I finished for Burn for the Moon back in March, after we went on a wonderful shoot with photographer extraordinaire @jamesklowe. It’s definitely one of my favourites- the show opens this Wednesday at @melanierogergallery as part of @artweekauckland. As Auckland is back in level 1 all are welcome to attend 🦀 Coasting, 750 x 1000mm, Oil on Canvas, 2020. Also, thank you to my personal tech support @nicolemillerwong for showing me how to use technology every single day (more on that soon too!)
Cinematic & Silly, 600 x 750mm, Oil on Canvas, 2020. Another for Burn for the Moon, opening Oct 14, @melanierogergallery. All work can be viewed online now at melanierogergallery.com 🌙
