CURATOR’S CHOICE. Tine Bagh, PhD, Egyptian Art. . This special tomb relief is another of my favourites because of its fun details. At the top we see two young men catching birds in a net – a commonplace scene in Egyptian tombs. The hieroglyphs reveal that their names are Serefka and Uhemka, the sons of Nefermaat and Atet, whose tomb the relief came from. Though the little boy in the section beneath them has no name, he may have been their little brother. Playing as he is with the animals, he certainly looks like a bit of a scallywag. A monkey with a red bottom is holding his hand and he is patting another monkey on the back. This monkey is holding a crane by the neck. That is probably a little bit over the top.
