F is for fanmi. ❤️ #PaolaLovesTyler #ZuliWuliWu #ZuliIsGoingTobeaBigSister
Last year, I had the opportunity to be one of four squad members from around the world to fly to Provence with @LoccitaneUSA. This year, I released my very own lipstick shade "BeingPaowerful" with the company. The entire experience was surreal, and the response (from you) was incredible! So you could imagine how thrilled I was when I was approached to start another partnership with one of my absolute favorite brands into the next year. ⠀ ⠀ Since my relationship started with @LoccitaneUSA in early March last year, I've been using many of their products religiously, and Zuli has too! (She gets very upset when she runs out of her lotion and shea butter!) I'm excited to share some of my favorite products with you starting with the Immortelle Divine Serum and the Immortelle Divine Cream. (Swipe to see how I apply my serum in the morning!) #LoveLoccitane #Ad ⠀ ⠀ About the products: After 20 years of research, L’OCCITANE has discovered a new extract: the Immortelle Super Extract, their naturally-derived alternative to retinol. This means more youthful and plump looking skin. Yes, to plumpness! Check out my stories for more info and to see how I incorporate these products into my daily routine. ⠀
I turned thirty-four years old today, and I'm feeling so full. It's always been my dream to feel full. Full with life, love, and all of the little things that bring me joy. Some of my new favorite things include cooking in the kitchen barefoot, lathering my face with serums and cream, rubbing my pregnant belly with shea butter, watching my husband read to my daughter, watching my daughter play with trains and trucks and blocks with my brother, spraying perfume on after I get dressed, being able to walk to work, being able to do what I love, and being able to say "no" to things no matter how much they pay. My twenty-four year old self would be proud, and fourteen year old self wouldn't even begin to understand. I'm grateful for a lot. For my people, my adventures, and all of the things I have yet to accomplish. Oh, and can we get into this dress? Thank you for sending me this @saintmojavi! I wasn't sure it would fit over my bump, but I'm happy I tried it on anyway! Sending you all some love. #FindingPaola❤️✨
Feeling golden. ✨⠀ ⠀ I added a little countdown to the @fanmdjanm relaunch (10.10.20) in my stories and noticed many of you set up reminders for it. That makes me so happy! Thank you all so much for your continued support. I’m still nervous about making the decision to move the company down here, restructuring the way we do everything (We even migrated the website so we can offer a better shopping experience.), but I know that it’s always good to take risks. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. #FindingPaola #InMyHeadwrap #ZuliIsGoingTobeAbigSister
Mood and the official countdown begins!⠀ -8 days until we relaunch the @fanmdjanm website. Man! That move from Brooklyn to Austin was quite the adventure...⠀ -12 days until my birthday! This year was so tough for all of us. I’m typically not into my birthday much, but this year I’ll make sure it’s different. Got to make every day count. I’m grateful for so much. ⠀ -32 days until the election. Have you registered to vote?⠀ ⠀ Thank you to everyone and your wonderful words around my pregnancy. Your kindness and support mean so much to us. Happy Friday! #FindingPaola #ZuliisGoingTobeaBigSister
I was sick, depressed, scared, and felt lost the entire time during my first pregnancy (with Zuli). The doctor told me not to keep my hopes up during the first visit, so in return, I tried to be too attached to the human growing inside of me. I tried not to think too much of the future, of a name, or what could be. It was hard to look at my belly, and when I did, I could only think about the absolute worst. This one is different and it FEELS different, but once you've had a high risk pregnancy with many complications, you'll always be considered high risk, I'm told. So here I am, unsure, excited, terrified, alert, but hopeful. Cherishing the days and the moments as they come. Loving and living no matter what the outcome is. Just hoping for the best. ❤️#Findingpaola #ZuliisGoingtobeaBigSister
I know the cool thing is to post about fall fashion, but I live in Texas... This post is for all the easy summer dress lovers out there. These could also all easily be layered for a fall look. Which looks is your fave? #FindingPaola
Yesterday, I watched my daughter run through an open field with a giant smile, the wind dancing in her curls as she dived right through my husband's legs to leap into my arms. Her loud giggles, and the curiosity that made her stop along the way to pick up a rock, or a brown leaf with a tiny green spot right in the middle made my heart sing. I remember once tearing up on the NJ transit train after witnessing something similar at one of the stations in passing. I was probably nineteen then, and I wondered if I would ever share simple, magical moments like these. I wondered if i could love and be loved in this type of way. I'm happy to be aware and present enough to notice when they're happening to me. My partnership with @chopard is all about exploring the things that make me happy. And nothing makes me happier than the joy my tiny family brings to me on a daily basis. AD| #WhatMakesMeHappy #HappyWithChopard
Sometimes you want to take a photo with your husband, and your child runs in like, "Hol' up! Yall doing this without me?!" Then the same child doesn't want to sit still for a picture. Then your husband and brother get tired of the shenanigans and this is what you end up with. 😂 That’s it. That’s the caption: #PaolaLovesTyler #ZuliWuliWu
Adapting to changes and making the best of everything have been the ongoing themes for this year in both my personal and professional life. I'm proud to partner with @theory__ this fall to share what my work and workspace look like. I feel grateful that I can still work on my dreams because I'm very aware of what's happening in the world. My only goal now is to be of service the best that I can be, and that work often starts with self. ⠀ ⠀ As a small business owner, I've had to make big, scary decisions since COVID-19. One of the biggest ones was to move Fanm Djanm from NYC (where everything started) to Austin, TX where I'm only now beginning to explore. Now, sitting in this new space we're calling our new home this past week made me reflect on how far I've truly come. Fanm Djanm started in my tiny, rent-stabilized 400 square foot studio apartment six years ago. It has been a tumultuous but surreal journey in many ways. I've continued to take steps that often scare me but feel right to nurture this little project. Big dreams can often make us feel exhausted and alone. Every now and then, when I'm feeling defeated, I put on red lipstick, or my favorite heels, or in this case a power suit to remind myself that I'm in charge. How is work looking for you these days? #FindingPaola #InTheory #TheoryFutureofWork #ad
My late friend Cax and I were really close. Sometimes, I'd wonder how I could have met someone so late in life who just understood me and who got along with me so beautifully. We were similar in so many ways, yet we always found things to debate with each other and banter about. I truly consider myself lucky to have known her, and I think about her often. I used to tell her that she and I meshed so well because "Good friendships are like a good ponytail. Neither of them can be forced." She hated that saying, and she rolled her eyes every time I said it. Naturally, I made sure to say it to her whenever it felt appropriate. ⠀ ⠀ One day, after I told her that, she responded, "Sis, you need to stop using this analogy. You black. And black women's ponytails are always forced." I cackled because it made sense then, so I consider her the winner of that round. ⠀ ⠀ I've been doing more with my hair because it has grown a lot more in the past year, and lately, I've been slicking it back into a ponytail. To achieve this, I used globs of gel in my freshly washed small afro, then slicked it all together into a little bun, wrapped it with a silk scarf to make sure all the hair was "laid", brushed my hairline with some edge control, then added some Marley hair I pre-twisted to add length and character. Her words bounced around my mind with every step that brought my little fro to this "Sade inspired" style. She'd be the first and (only) person I'd text a selfie to so I could brag about my "ponytail" and how she should call me Rapunzel or "Dark Skinned Sade". She'd either respond with something smart or "You cute sis". I'm sharing this with you because here's what I understood from this experience, and this what what my comeback would be to her (a year or so later), "Great friendships are like good ponytails even IF you're black. They are not forced, but they require great effort to accomplish or maintain." She'd probably still find something to say to win because well, maybe we shouldn't compare great friendships to ponytails? #FindingPaola
