TW: Abuse and PTSD - Part 3 for #domesticabuseawareness - My PTSD diagnosis came when my therapist realized that I was missing nearly three years of memories. Ages 21-23 were blank. We caught it when I kept accidentally telling people I was 21- I’d fill it out on paperwork, and answer 21 when I was asked. I would quickly catch that I was deeeefinitely not 21, but I couldn’t figure out why I kept impulsively answering incorrectly. At first it was almost funny but then it quickly made me feel like I was going insane- until I got my diagnosis. I learned that that’s a sign of PTSD, your brain will essentially halt at the time the trauma started. Trauma + abuse will literally rewire your brain. - I kept my diagnosis a secret for months- PTSD symptoms made me feel crazy. My memory in general was so spotty, and it was so frustrating to navigate healing when three years had vanished. It’s taken me several months to come to terms with that diagnosis and I share this in hopes that this normalizes the stigma and misconceptions around PTSD. - My PTSD manifested in memory loss, nightmares, flashbacks, and anxiety attacks. It’s been quite the process but the biggest helps have been starting EMDR to repair my memory and repair traumatic triggers, having a “toolbox” for when anxiety attacks hit, mantras to calm my body during flashbacks/nightmares, and educating those around me on my signs and how to help me when I have any sort of attack. PTSD is fixable. It’s treatable. It’s a mental disorder you deserve to resolve. The sooner you work on it, the less it will effect you long term and you deserve to heal 🤍 I’m so grateful for how far I’ve come with my PTSD. Trauma rewires your brain and your body responds in ways that will sometimes feel out of control- be patient with yourself. Give yourself grace. Give yourself the time, energy, and patience to heal. Reach out get help, because I pinky promise you deserve help. Getting help is one of the strongest things you’ll do. Swipe to see some of my favorite tools, mantras, etc. - Please call 1-800-799-SAFE if you or someone you love is ever questioning help.

Sometimes it's your attitude, but hey, sometimes it's not. This is one of the hardest things I struggled with coming out of an abusive situation. I thought being "negative" was a permanent part of my personality. *TW for this post- abuse. - I was told that any emotional reaction I had to abuse was just because of my poor attitude. The situation wasn't that bad- I was just that negative. I was too sensitive. I was crazy. I was the bad guy if I was sad, scared, or hurt because I was insane for being those things. I'd be baited then gaslit then love bombed. If I didn't back down, the consequences would intensify. I didn't even know there were terms for what was happening to me. - I didn't know how much I didn't know until someone (we LOVE therapy) finally educated me. Abuse can be so mentally and emotionally disorienting. It's mental gymnastics. It's okay if you don't know what you don't know yet! Let's start here! You are not negative by being upset by abuse. You're not crazy. You can be sad. mad. upset. scared. Any emotion is valid. A lil favorite nugget from my therapist when I feel uncomfy about being mad about my experiences - "You should be mad. Your rights have been violated" - So today let's educate ourselves on what abusive tactics look like. These are some common tactics however not all- so please scroll but please research. Please help anyone you know that's experiencing these things, please help yourself. Love you. And p.s.- it's really easy to change your attitude and be happy when you're safe. You deserve that. - Please call 1-800-799-SAFE if you or someone you love ever question needing help.

Your life should feel light, happy, and all things good most of the time. And if not? Something has got to change.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We have one baby life to live and I'm determined I'll live it feeling grateful for every second (both the happy and the painful ones). I thought the first half of my 20's would kill me, and I'm never taking another day for granted again. I control my life, and so do you. So if you're feeling heavy? Weighed down? Out of control? Something's got to change, and I promise you have the power to do so. It might not be easy, but it's possible.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As our fearless leader, @glennondoyle, says "There is a life meant for you that is truer than the one you’re living. But in order to have it, you will have to forge it yourself. You will have to create on the outside what you are imagining on the inside. Only you can bring it forth. And it will cost you everything.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Get moving. Get going. You can do it, and damn it, you deserve it. If you want to hear some more motivation I'd suggest binging episodes 1, 7, and 10 of TMPB that are dedicated to topics like this! While you're at it, binge @blakehogge's episode from earlier today, too. And in the meantime I'll be over here binging Triple Beam pizza. See you there!

Feeling burnt out? Are you engaging in personal projects in your business? Are you prioritizing your artistic voice and expression?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One of my favorite things to walk my coaching clients through is personal projects for their brand + business. The hustle of our businesses can veeeery easily make us forget why we started this in the first place- we're always working towards perfection in our craft but too must hustle can sometimes mean burn out.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So let's chat.. Here's why you should be prioritizing personal projects in your business-⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. You can get back to the "why" in your business. Remember why you started this job in the first place!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. You can create ideal content for your ideal client. The more content you have that is your "ideal" content, the more your ideal client will be drawn to it. After all, you'll only get hired for what you're marketing, so share only your dream work!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. You can take big risks to push yourself as an artist. With paying clients, it can be hard to take big risks with your craft because your clients deserve a guaranteed product/experience. So no client? No problem if your risk doesn't pay off, it'll only be a learning experience. That means no risk, high reward.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So let's make it happen cutieeees! What passion project are you planning for this month?

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. It's also a month that marks a lot of painful memories and triggers for me. But it's also the month that marks the anniversary of me finally choosing my emotional, mental, and physical safety and health above everything else. I was a 'lil surprised when my therapist told me what this month is- and that I should channel a month of my personal emotions + anniversaries into productive conversations around such an important topic that does not get enough attention. Which is scary, honestly. But these conversations are needed.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I didn't know I was being abused until my therapist had to repeatedly tell me “this is abuse”. I thought what was happening was normal. I was being told it was normal. Maybe you're being told it's normal too, but it's not. You deserve normal. REAL normal. Normal is beautiful and lovely and safe. If it's not that, it's not normal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Abuse comes in a lot of shapes and sizes, and even if it doesn't look like abuse does in movies and TV, it doesn't mean it's not abuse. So this month I'm speaking up. I'm sharing so you know you're not alone. So you know what to look for. So you know how to help yourself, or help others you see in abusive situations (because abuse isn't someones "private business"). This month I'm sharing what I wish someone shared with me when I needed it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You deserve all things beautiful, lovely, and safe. That's always waiting on the other side, and I pinky promise you can make it to the other side. My DM's are always open if you want an ear, you want help, you want advice- any of it. Let's spread awareness, let's help others and ourselves find safety, and let's sport some purple this month, too. Love ya lots.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Please call 1-800-799-SAFE if you or someone you love ever question needing help.
