What’s for lunch? Yasmin, 4, and Frank, 7, are having rice, beans and tortillas at home in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Thanks to our generous supporters, ChildFund has been able to help supply the family with nutritious food throughout the COVID-19 crisis. “The pandemic affected us a lot,” says their mom, Mariselda. “It was sad. We were scared. We didn’t have any way to work or make money. I don’t know what we would have done without you all helping us with food.” _____________________ Photos by @lyell_shoots #lunch #food #guatemala #covid19 #crisis #nutrition #family #children #childfund
Supriya is going places! At 13, this smart girl is an active member of the ChildFund youth club in her community in India and an advocate for girls' rights. But she remembers a time when she didn’t feel so confident – a time when her family couldn’t afford doctor visits, school supplies or even sometimes food. “All these situations affected me a lot,” she says. “I always think about this, even though I have grown up.” Getting a sponsor at age 7 helped Supriya and her family get better access to the basics. Today, Supriya says she has her sponsor, Corette, to thank for motivating and encouraging her. “I will never forget the support and guidance I’ve received under sponsorship,” Supriya says. “I hope that all children get an education like me and are skilled for great opportunities in their life.” _____________________ #india #girl #children #sponsorship #childsponsorship #sponsorachild #childfund

“This is one of the worst droughts I have ever experienced. And I was born here. We cannot even afford one meal a day.” About once every five years, changing weather patterns caused by climate change bring severe drought back to East Africa, threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions. Meet the kids and families in Kenya who are struggling to survive extreme food and water shortages in 2021. Ever feel like it’s a struggle just to move forward? Meet Gaspar Benjamin, age 8, one of our sponsored children in Guatemala. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was only a year old, doctors told him his entire life that he would never walk. Over the years, ChildFund has helped fund several surgeries on Gaspar Benjamin’s legs and one on his eyes. He can now walk with the help of braces and canes, and he continues to improve with regular physical therapy. “I want him to live his life with no limitations,” says his mama, Dorivia. “We're so grateful to them [ChildFund] for taking us in and supporting us. They keep encouraging us. We haven't been alone along the way … and we have managed to move forward.” _____________________ Photos by @lyell_shoots #mondaymotivation #movingforward #hope #motivation #children #cerebralpalsy #sponsorachild #childfund
Celebrate – Alice just got a sponsor! 🙌 It’s a pretty big deal for this 9-year-old in Zambia, who has been waiting since she was 4. Alice’s family says that when she was younger, she would ask for paper and crayons every time she came home from school so that she could draw a picture for her sponsor. As time passed and the drawings piled up, Alice almost forgot about getting a sponsor – but then the good news finally came. “Her name is Ms. Shelly, and she lives in the USA,” Alice says. “Today I received her photo, and I can’t stop looking at her. I think she is nice and kind.” She adds that it’s exciting to be a sponsored child because there is always something to look forward to. Thank you for making moments like these possible. _____________________ #sponsorship #zambia #celebrate #childsponsorship #goodnews #sponsorachild

Thank you 👏 to everyone who has donated to our COVID-19 response in India so far! @forbesindia just published an amazing snapshot of what your support is helping our team in India accomplish with children and their families. Link in bio. “To protect children and adolescents, who may be vulnerable in a third wave, we are transforming pediatric wards at primary health care units into child-friendly COVID care centers, which is a new concept in India," says Pratibha Pandey, senior health specialist at ChildFund India. “We are working with communities so that they are prepared to manage the effects of COVID on children, which includes children with single parents and orphans." _____________________ #india #emergency #relief #indiafightscorona #thankyou #children #childfund
What does “a good dad” look like? These fathers around the world can show us. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads whose love makes such an incredible difference in kids' lives, even under tough circumstances! * Armando and his daughter, Joelia, 5, share a hug at their home in Bolivia. * In Uganda, Ben teaches his daughter, Magdalene, 6, how to harvest rice from their fields. * In Indonesia, Yosafat, 13 (left), and Ignatius, 9 (center), do homework with their father’s help. Did you know that approximately half of the world’s refugees are children? At the border between Guatemala and Mexico, where ChildFund helps operate a shelter for refugee children and families fleeing extreme poverty and violence in Central America, families have often crossed rivers, jungles and deserts to find a safe place to call home. “The decision to undertake such a journey was not easy,” says Luz (not her real name), one mother we spoke to at the shelter. “Much worse when you’re traveling with your children. It’s very risky. But we could no longer afford to pay the extortion. That’s [the gangs'] rule: Each week, you pay the extortion, and if you can’t pay, then you die.” Through the shelter and other programs, ChildFund is helping ensure that children are healthy, learning and safe, whether at home or on the move. On June 19, 1865 – more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln gave the Emancipation Proclamation – a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, became the last in the United States to receive the news that they were free. For Black people in our country and around the world, freedom from racism, violence and injustice has been similarly slow to arrive. Today, we honor all those who have fought and are still fighting the uphill battle for racial equality, and we celebrate the vision of freedom for all people. For all children. Happy Juneteenth. _____________________ #Juneteenth #freedom #children #blacklivesmatter #childfund
