On the trail with a trusty walking stick.

Taking a boat across the lake to one of the small villages, called San Marcos. From the water, two walking paths lead up into the hills.

We met so many wonderful people in Guatemala. In this rural area, many people were as fascinated to see us as we were fascinated to see them. Most people in this village outside Nebaj did not speak any Spanish, let alone English... Mayan languages being the norm. So we communicated with smiles and hand gestures. Did you know there are some 30 differebt Mayan languages spoken widely in Guatemala?

Gotta love the creative paint jobs on Guatemalan buses. And of course a bumpy ride with locals, squeezed in between the chickens and burlap sacks of produce.
