#FeatureFriday Varnette Honeywood, an internationally renowned Black artist, is known for her use of color, light, patterns and textures. Her participation in the Civil Rights movement made it evident to her the importance of visual arts in social justice. An instinct that led her to creating joyful and nuanced portrayal of Black family life.

She blends intricate patterns, text, vibrant colors, and sometimes surreal imagery into what she calls "art for the people" and her paintings range from sacred images from various religions, portrayals of women, families, and scenes of everyday life. In addition to being a talented artist, Laura is a prominent leader on the Bronx art scene. She is both the originator and Executive Director of BX200:Bronx Visual Artists Directory, an online database of some of the Bronx's best visual artist.
