Did you know a tree can be a compass? The Divi Divi trees on the Caribbean island of Aruba are always pointing in the southwestern direction. The wonderfully cooling trade winds blow across the island twisting and turning the tree trunks into unique shapes and fascinating natural art. They look like oversized Bonsai trees. According to tourism manger Angelina Bunkley “you’re never lost traveling on the island. Let the trees be your guide” Have you been to Aruba? Did the Divi Divi tree hel you find your way? ☀️ - win a 3 night 4 day stay in Aruba at the Brickell Bay resort. Watch my YouTube video for detail and to learn more about Aruba. The bottle tree is a legend in the Geechee/Gullah culture. With roots in West Africa, the practice of hanging bottles on tree branches was practiced by enslaved southerns living along the South Carolina and Georgia sea islands. It was believed the bottles captured spirits at night, luring and trapping them inside. When the wind blows you can hear the trapped spirits inside. Bottles were placed near crossroads to capture passing spirits. The color blue is believed to ward off spirits. The combo of bottles and blue color would certainly take care of any wandering spirits. Today bottle trees are popular garden art and they are found in many landscapes, not just in the south. Have you seen a bottle tree? Would you place one in your garden as art? You’ll find this one at the Pin Point Heritage Museum in Pin Point, GA 👇🏽 👇🏽 👇🏽 @exploregeorgia @goldenisles @visitsavannah #travel #over50travel @coastal_living #coastalliving #omaginsiders

This year has truly been one of 2020-Vision! Having time to reflect and see things differently and also sudden changes you didn’t see coming and may not have been prepared to respond so quickly. How have you adjusted to our year of seeing things anew? Is it a skip down the yellow brick road with the hopes of meeting someone or something to magically show you the way? Or have you found a way to embrace what’s different and use your own magic within to set a different course. For me it has been a year of reflection and time to see what works- what doesn’t, what truly feels like a good fit - what doesn’t. I’m giving serious thought and plans to what I’d like to do differently. I loved my lucky chance to meet Glenda The Good Witch while visiting @beechmountainnc Our chat was not about magic, but the power to find my way along any path .... the power to do it is already there. I’ve always had it inside. And, so do you! 👇🏽 👇🏽 👇🏽 *Photo taken in 2019* @beechmountainnc @landofoznc #wizardofoz @wizardofozfilm #yellowbrickroad #somewhereovertherainbow @visitnc @northcarolinaexplore @pineapple_pr #omaginsiders

Last night as the sky darken and the colors held close in the sky, this is the photo I took with my phone! No filters, just all natural. Taken with the colors my phone captured with no light. Blue night sky, highlighted with fuchsia..... reflecting on the Julienton River, flowing from the Harris Neck. National Wildlife Refuge. A magical night. 👇🏽 👇🏽 👇🏽 #sunset #sunsetphotography #nightsky #nighttime @exploregeorgia @georgia #omaginsiders #travelgram #over50travel #pinkandblue #pinkpinkpink #pinksky @travel #harrisnecknationalwildliferefuge
There is nothing like a Georgia coastal sunset. Last night the sky was on fire. No filter, just nature. The bright colors shine through the moss covered gnarly, bending branches of old Live Oak trees, making it energizing and yet calming, and reflective. I love to stand beside the marsh & witness the beauty. 😍 👇🏽 👇🏽 👇🏽 @exploregeorgia #sunset #sunsetphotography #sunsetlover @goldenisles #marshland #georgiacoast #georgiacoastline #omaginsiders #over50travel #over50travels
A sunny day along the spectacular avenue of large Live Oak trees at Wormsloe in Savannah. Wormsloe is one of the Georgia State Historic Sites. The intriguing name has people speculating its origin. The area’s name came from the British township of Noble Jones who settled in the area during the early 1700’s. Spelled slightly different, the English village Wormslow (Wormelow) in Herefordshire is the inspiration for the name of the very popular place to visit along the Georgia coast. Visitors to the area can hike the nature trails past the tabby ruins and tour a museum with artifacts unearthed from Wormsloe grounds. @gastateparks 👇🏽 👇🏽 👇🏽 @exploregeorgia @ga_historical_society #history #historylovers #liveoak #nature #hiking #tabbyruins #historicpreservation @wormsloestatehistoricsite @visitsavannah
