While working on the January 1994 issue of Vogue Australia, Luhrmann was playing the role of guest editor for the issue, directing a shoot with the legendary Bert Stern inspired by Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe. “To get the scene right, even though it was a still image, I asked Kylie if she would sing just something,” Luhrmann recalls. “Without even flinching, she went right into an a capella version of a song, bowling me and everyone else over with how pitch perfect and flawless she was.
