When you’re not in the mood to get dressed… ✨ Do it anyway ✨ Here’s why ⤵️ Clothes are a tool. And when you’re tired. Or feeling blah. Or uninspired. That’s probably the most important time to use this tool. ✨ Because clothes can make you feel CONFIDENT. ✨ Clothes can make you feel STRONG. ✨ Clothes can make you feel POWERFUL. And you can use clothes when you need them for a big boost. You know what I mean, right? That feeling you get when you look in the mirror & you really like what you see. And then you can feel good about what you’re wearing, forget about it & have a great day. ✨ Especially if your day includes fighting for a woman’s right to choose. ➡️ Comment YES if you agree that clothes can be a tool. The biggest request I get from clients ⤵️ “I want to feel more pulled together.” Whether you’re going to the office or working remotely. Whether it's family time or date night. Whether you’re at home or on vacation.
😎 You want to feel cool. You want to feel stylish. You want to feel confident. And one common thing I’ve discovered in many clients’ closets is that they’re missing something. You know what I mean, right? You get dressed, but your outfit doesn’t feel complete. It doesn’t feel finished. And you don’t feel pulled together. I’ve been in 100’s of clients’ closets. And I’ve discovered 5 ‘style basics’ that are often missing. And these are the things that can finish off your look & make you feel totally pulled together on a daily basis. The first ‘style basic’ that may be missing from your closet is ⤵️ ❇️ Third pieces ❇️ Third pieces (jackets, blazers, cardigans) are true outfit completers. They pull your look together like nothing else can. But when I'm in clients' closets, I'll often only find outerwear instead of third pieces. 🧐 What's the difference between outerwear & a third piece? You take off outerwear as soon as you get inside. But you keep your third piece on, since it's part of your outfit. Are you ready for the other 4 ‘style basics’ that may be missing from your closet? ➡️ Click the link in my bio to get my list of ‘5 style basics that may be missing from your closet’. You’ll discover what’s keeping you from feeling stylish & pulled together. And when you sign up to get the list, you’ll also be signed up for Style Mail - my best style inspiration 2X/month. Because what’s better than style delivered right to your inbox? P.S. So now that you know about a third piece, do you have any in your closet? P.P.S. The secrets they don’t want you to know ⤵️ 🤫 You don’t need a ton of clothes to have great style. 🤫 You don’t have to completely rethink your outfits every day to feel stylish. 🤫 You can create totally different looks that all start with the same thing. Because having a huge wardrobe can feel overwhelming. And complicated outfits may not be your vibe. So, why not keep it simple when you can?? A super simple way to create multiple outfits is starting with the same ‘base outfit’. A base outfit is simple pieces that you begin with. And then you can add different layers & accessories to achieve fresh & distinct looks. I used a white t-shirt & jeans as my ‘base outfit’ for the looks in this post. But different base outfit ideas are ⤵️ 😀 A solid blouse & black pants 😃 A striped t & khakis 😄 A simple sweater & wide leg trousers 😁 A dress Start with your base. And then play with different third pieces (jackets, cardigans, etc.). Grab sneakers or flats or booties. Add a belt (or not). Try different jewelry. And you suddenly have a whole bunch of looks - but you don’t need a whole bunch of clothes. ➡️ Comment YES PLEASE for the link to the article with 6 more outfits (that you can copy) that all start with a t-shirt & jeans. The reminder you need… If your fall clothes could talk, they might be saying: 👉🏼 “I forgot what the outside looks like.” 👉🏽 “It’s kind of crowded in here.” Because you may not have touched your fall clothes for months. You might not even realize how much you have. And you may have actually forgotten about a few things. So, this is your quick reminder: ❇️ Check what’s in your closet BEFORE you shop for new fall clothes ❇️ Because the last thing you want to do is buy something. And realize that you already have something (that looks just like it) sitting in your closet. And you actually got through last fall, fully dressed, everyday. So, you probably already have some great stuff. Here are 2 more things to do BEFORE you shop for fall👇🏾 ❇️ Check out what you wore last fall - those favorite fall pieces that you loved. Because if it worked last year, it will probably work again. ❇️ Write a list of what you really need. So that you’re filling true gaps in your wardrobe (as opposed to just buying something because it’s cute). 👉🏿 SAVE & SHARE THIS POST as a reminder before you go shopping. Because if there are conversations going on in your closet, you should listen to what your clothes have to say. P.S. If you’re not sure what’s working (& not working) in your closet, you need a partner in the process of evolving your style. Click the link in my bio to get the conversation started. I’ll send you details about my process. And then we’ll schedule a free Zoom consultation to chat about working together. . . . . #closetorganization #closetorganizer #closetorganizationideas #organizedlife #organizingideas #stayorganized #organizeyourlife #closetdesign #organizedcloset #closetgoals

Don’t buy into the hype… If you’re flipping through magazines, perusing catalogs (or cruising around social media), you may think you need to wear certain shades to channel fall style ⤵️ But you don’t 😮 Fall isn’t only about rust & oranges. Or mustard yellow. Or camel & olive green & browns. Fall style is about any color you want to wear. ❇️ Because colors aren’t seasonal (no matter what anyone says). You might be thinking, “but these colors reflect fall leaves & pumpkins!” And yes they do - but that doesn’t mean you have to wear them to enjoy fall style. Because specific colors are not inherently suited to one season more than another. So feel free to wear whatever color you like, at any time of year. And here’s a quick tip ⤵️ ❇️ The real indicator of seasonality is fabric weight. And it’s appropriateness to the weather. Which is why (when temperatures dip) you can put away your linen & gauze & thin cottons. In favor of wools, heavier cottons, cashmere, etc. So, feel free to wear your bright pink sweater in fall. And while you’re at it - grab your white jeans. ➡️ Drop a 😍 in the comments if you agree! P.S. If you’re looking for more practical, real-life style advice. Or you want outfit ideas to get you through fall in style ➡️ comment YES PLEASE to sign up for STYLE MAIL. The analogy you didn’t know you needed… Have you ever thought of your closet like your food pantry? (stick with me for a minute) You shop for ingredients (like you shop for items of clothing). With the goal of making a delicious meal (like your clothes make a great outfit). But when you go food shopping without a list, you’re just buying random things. And instead of making a delicious meal, nothing works together (& you’re eating a bag of potato chips for dinner). And when you go clothes shopping without a list, you’re just buying random things, too. And instead of making great outfits, nothing works together (& you just wear the same thing you always wear). So, how can you ensure you buy what you need (& need what you buy)? ❇️ WRITE A LIST Here’s your first step ⤵️ Just like you have a chalkboard (or similar) in your kitchen to capture which groceries you need - start a note in your phone. And when you’re getting dressed (& something is missing), write down what you need. It may be ‘flats that aren’t black’ to add interest to a t & jeans outfit. Or ‘a jacket to wear over sleeveless dresses’ as the weather cools. And then refer to this list when you go shopping, so that you’re actually filling gaps in your wardrobe (as opposed to just buying what looks cute). ➡️ Comment YES PLEASE for 2 more ways to write a productive shopping list. P.S. If you have no idea where to start, I can be your partner in the process. Did I hit a nerve with this? When I shared this post on TikTok, I received a lot of negative comments. Yes, there were the tongue-in-cheek, “I feel attacked” comments. But there were also, “who are you, telling me what to wear?” And, “I only take pictures on vacation, so why should I change what I wear everyday?” And, “I can’t put in more effort. I don’t have enough time/money/energy.” So, here’s what I have to say ⤵️ If you don’t care about how you feel in clothes on a daily basis, I’m not going to change that. But if you suddenly realize that you only feel good on vacation. Or date night. And that you feel pretty crappy about how you look on a daily basis. It might be time to re-evaluate the priorities you place on clothes & style. ➡️ Because you deserve to feel great in your clothes everyday. And not just a handful of days a year. So, how can you put more effort into your everyday style? Here are 3 ways to start: 1️⃣ Invest in what you wear most - buy the highest quality you can afford for what you wear on a regular basis. 2️⃣ Figure out your go-to outfits - create outfits that you can pull together quickly in the morning. And then put them on repeat. 3️⃣ Gather inspiration - look for photos & find resources for how you want to look & feel in clothes on a daily basis (not just on special occasions). And if you’re not sure how to get started, here are a couple ideas: ✅ Follow me here @urbsurburbstyle - I spend the majority of my time working with clients on their everyday style. So, that’s what I share here. ✅ Comment YES if you’re ready to put more effort into your everyday style. Are you willing to wear this? ➡️ A strapless bra Most clients that I work with are clear on that answer. 👍🏻 They’ll either wear one when the occasion warrants (usually somewhere dressy) or with a specific top/dress (that they love). 👎🏻 Or they say they’ll never wear one again. But sometimes, you may be less clear about what you will (& won’t) wear ⤵️ Are you a “I’ll never wear heels again” person? Or “I’ll only wear 1.5” or less”? (but you have 3”+ heels in your closet?) Have you said, “I only want comfortable clothes”? (but you have things that you only wear with utterly uncomfortable shapewear?) Is your lifestyle more low key, family-oriented & super casual? (but you have more ‘going out to bars’ tops than everyday tops?) So, here’s my big piece of advice ⤵️ ❇️ BE REALISTIC ❇️ Be realistic with what makes sense for your lifestyle. Be realistic with what you will & won’t wear. Be realistic with what makes you feel good. Because it’s not about having great clothes ➡️ it’s about having great clothes that make sense for your life. That you’ll actually wear. And then curating a style that reflects that (and letting go of what doesn’t). ➡️ So tell me - are you willing to wear a strapless bra? P.S. You don’t want to say this in 4 weeks ⤵️ 😩 “I wish I wore that before summer was over!” If you have favorite summer pieces that you haven’t worn yet. Or you only wore once (& you want to wear again). Don’t just hope that you remember to wear them. Do this ⤵️⤵️⤵️ ❇️ PUT THEM SOMEWHERE VISIBLE Put them where you’ll see them. Like the front of your closet. Or on a hook behind your door. Or a coat rack in your bedroom. Because out of sight, out of mind - but in sight, in mind (or something like that 😂) If you see them, you’ll remember to wear them. And enjoy them again before the season is over. And if you want to double confirm that you’ll wear them ⤵️ ❇️ MAKE SOME OUTFITS Create & photograph an outfit (or two). So that when the occasion arises, you already know exactly how you’re wearing it. And then ⤵️ ❇️ DECIDE TO WEAR IT If dresses aren’t part of your everyday - but you want to wear your favorite one again - don’t just hope to wear it. Plan to wear it. Look at your calendar & decide exactly when you’ll wear it. And if you don’t have an occasion - make one. And if you don’t have any big plans before summer ends - just decide that Fridays are ‘summer dress Fridays’. ❇️ This is exactly the kind of advice I’ve been giving clients for 10+ years. ➡️ So, if you want more of the style strategies I use with my clients, comment YES PLEASE. And I’ll send you the link to get STYLE MAIL - a quick twice-a-month email with tips & inspiration to elevate your outfits & evolve your style. And just enjoy your wardrobe more. P.S. Don’t get mad at me… …but I’m not ready for fall fashion 😣 I know that tons of influencers here are talking about fall. And they’re doing it so well! All the cozy sweaters & fall colors & textures ⬅️ some of my favorite things. But for the moment, I’m happy to stay fully entrenched in summer. It’s the warmest time of year where I live. And I’m still enjoying my summer style. And here’s my thought about it, too ⤵️ If we’re always focused on the future, then we’re not focused on enjoying the present. And I feel like this happens almost every season. 🍁 Once it hits mid-August, people start talking about fall. ❄️ Once we pass Halloween, people focus on winter style & the holidays. 🌸 Once we hit the end of January, people start pining for spring weather. And it always feels like we’re looking to what’s coming next. Instead of looking at what’s happening right now. So, I’ll be over here (maybe in the minority), still enjoying my summer style. ☀️ Who’s with me?? ➡️ Drop a comment to let me know - are you team summer ☀️ (still enjoying summer style)? Or are you team fall 🍁 (can’t wait for fall to get here)? (Or maybe you’re a mix? ☀️🍁) . . . . #stylemehappy #stylebyme #ownyourstyle #styleexpert #personalstylistonline #styleoverforty #styleoverthirty #wardrobestyling #virtualstyling #virtualstyle #virtualstylist #wearyourownstyle #summerstyleinspo #summerstylefile #summerstyles
