The Island House presents “A Lil’ Ta-Do”, join us on Thursday, July 6 from 6:30pm for an evening in celebration of 50 years of Bahamian culture, with live music headlined by the explosive Essence Band. As a jazz fusion band, The Essence Band aims to push the limits of integration between all-time favorite jazz standards and modern-day jazz along with R&B. Made up of stellar performers, each in their own right, Victor Johnson, skilled pianist and musical director; Charisa Smith, sultry lead vocalist; Jermaine Taylor, rhythmic percussionist; and Dion Turnquest, saxophonist extraordinaire, this premier ensemble is known to mesmerize audiences both locally and across regional and international circuits. According to Victor, “We are just trying to create memories, and music at its essence is what gives us memories” …and they are sure to create a memorable night of celebration we are sure you will not soon forget! Also opening this night of independence festivities will be the spirited rake ’n scrape youth ensemble Rhythm ’n Youth with their spellbinding chemistry, and an epic Junkanoo rush-out by the Performance Stars. Bahamian Filmmaking stood out at The Island House Film Festival a few weeks ago, so due to popular demand we are bringing back a few documentaries to give those that missed them the chance to see. Among the lineup is Two Faced Nation, an independent documentary that focuses on the impact of gender inequality in The Bahamas.
