Motown Accelerator presents 2021 artist, JONAH. Soul/R&B and Hip Hop artist, JONAH, is no stranger to the spotlight. In his early teens, he was introduced to the music industry by his legendary mentor and grandmother, Aretha Franklin. Now, with the help of Motown Accelerator, he's reintroducing himself to the world as a multi-talented, singer-rapper with a lot to say. JONAH’s life experiences and storytelling skills show up on fan favorite tracks, "Smoke In My Lungs" and "Good Intentions", while the latest addition to his catalogue, "Day Dreaming", a re-make of his grandmother's classic of the same name, shines light on his soulful tone and impressive vocal arrangements. With a recent starring role in a national #Pepsi campaign and new songs being recorded in LA and Detroit, JONAH is gearing up for a well deserved breakout year in 2022. Motown Accelerator presents 2021 artist, Caleb Shumake. Though Caleb's muffled application submission was his first attempt at songwriting, the dexterity and depth of his baritone quickly grabbed local and national judge's attention. Having only heard his acoustic covers and a handful of unmixed demos, music executives around the industry are excited about Caleb. During the program, he’s created songs that capture his gospel roots, piano and guitar chops, and well-pronounced thoughts on male emotional availability. The result of a dozen recording sessions in Detroit, Atlanta, and Los Angeles is a debut EP, to be released in 2022, that carefully weaves together Caleb’s musings on love, relationships and vulnerability from the perspective of a 24 year old preacher’s kid and point guard from Detroit. Congrats to our first cohort of 2021! We listened to hundreds of applications and found 10 artists and 10 managers from Detroit to participate in our first ever 6-week Accelerator. Here's how it went down: • 30 program hours • 18 industry topics covered by 16 music executives • $500 to set up LLCs, publishing and royalty collection • 6 A&R listening sessions • Unlimited one-on-one meetings Next month, 2 artists and 2 managers will move on to our 12-week Accelerator and receive $25,000 and $5,000 grants. All artists will be featured performers at our summer showcase in August. Follow them all to follow their journeys.
