Bell hooks' definition of feminism is definitely the best! "Feminism is the struggle to end sexist oppression. Its aim is not to benefit solely any specific group of women, any particular race or class of women. It does not privilege women over men. It has the power to transform in a meaningful way all our lives." bell hooks - FEMINIST THEORY: from margin to center. RIP bell hooks 🙏🙏🙏
I wish I could understand this when I was a teenage girl... No one looks perfect and if you think they do then it's probably because the image is photoshopped :) #selflovequotes #selflovejourney #selflovefirst #selfloveisthebestlove #selfloveclub #selflovematters #selflovemovement #selfloveisfirstlove #selflovebringsbeauty #bodypositivemovement #bodypositivequotes #bodypositiveart #bodypositivebabe #bodypositivepower #bodypositivewomen #feminist #feministart #feministquotes #feminists #feministartist #feministaf #feministquote #feministillustration
Boys who aren't taught about rejection become men who don't know the meaning of no. We teach our children, “If at first you don't succeed, try try again," but that simply does not apply to relationships. Rejection is crushing. We all know this. And dealing with rejection is difficult. That’s why parents need to have (and re-have) conversations about weathering emotional blows and why it’s important to provide context for kids confused by messaging around rejection they might get from popular culture. It’s never too early to start teaching your child how to respect other people, their bodies, and their agency. #nomeansno #noisacompletesentence
It was never about being "Pro-life", it’s about controlling women and punishing them for having sex. "Pro-lifers" like to speak about "sanctity of life" and calling women "sluts" but almost all of them have no solution to unplanned pregnancies other than “don’t have a sex”. Anti-abortion laws does not reduce number of abortions, but only put women's health at risk. In places where abortion is banned people will go to another state/country where they can do the procedure. And, if the person can't afford the trip, illegal underground abortion "clinics" will spring up offering to provoke a stillborn. Statistics shows that countries with the most restrictive abortion laws have the highest rates of abortion. At the same time, countries in Western Europe have some of the lowest abortion rates in the world, despite providing women with some of the best access to abortion care. Women in these countries are well educated, empowered and have good access to sex education and contraception.* Only easier access to birth control and sexual education really drives down abortion rates. #RallyForAbortionJustice #womensmarch Sources: * https://www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/induced-abortion-worldwide https://www.guttmacher.org/report/abortion-worldwide-2017
Anti-Abortion laws act to distract the masses, allowing politicians to perform corruption, fraud, etc. Women are incredibly powerful and are threatening to many men, especially for those with whom conflict with their own mothers was hurtful, and problematic to their growth & identity. That's why male politicians try to regulate our bodies, to get back the control over their political games. Unfortunately women who support the male-driven laws regulating their bodies believe that to share power with men, they have to put down their fellow woman. This is why we need to see more women in positions of power. This is why we absolutely need to lift up and support each other as women. “My body is not a political playground, it’s not a place for legislation, it’s mine, and it’s my future.” — Samirah Raheem #mybodymychoice
Women in history have fought tirelessly for women’s rights and equality. They’ve fought for women to not be seen as an ‘inferior’ sex. By competing and putting each other down, we are not supporting these efforts from powerful women in the past. It reinforces the idea that we should feel inferior. We should be continuing to fight for equality by lifting and building each other up. By doing this, we show people that we are strong and equal 💪✨ When we support each other, amazing things can happen. When we work together, we ALL benefit 🌸✨ 👩🏽👩🏻👩🏾👩🏼👩🏿 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #girlssupportgirls
"Why don’t you have a boyfriend?" "Are you engaged yet?" "When are you getting married?" "When are you going to have a baby?" "Are you pregnant?" "Are you planning to have more children?" "Why do you have so many kids?" "..." "Is it that time of the month?" So Many Questions. One Answer. #mindyourownuterus
Loving yourself isn’t about being selfish, inconsiderate or ego-focused. When you truly love yourself, you nurture those aspects that are the best part of you — your gifts and abilities, your traits and standards — and make a committed effort to overcoming those habits and tendencies that cause harm to others or to yourself. When you love yourself, you are acknowledging your worth and value, and then acting in a way that shows who you are and what you stand for. And when someone in your life treats you in a way that conflicts with your self-estimation—he or she is abusive or mean or just plain hurtful—you put a safe distance between the two of you because you do love yourself. #selfloveisnotselfish
I believe that both the decisions, to have an abortion, as well as to carry a pregnancy to term, have consequences. These consequences can be physical, sociological, and/or psychological. Therefore, the decision should be left to individual women to decide which consequences they are able to bear. For this reason, access to safe, medical care regarding reproduction and abortion should be available to all women, across all states. No man should be able to make decisions about a woman's body. #mybodymychoice "I do not wish women to have power over men; but over themselves." This quote belongs to Mary Wollstonecraft. She was a famous, eighteenth-century British writer. In 1792, she published her most prominent work, ‘A Vindication of the Rights of Women’, through which she criticised the prevalent belief that women are just household adornments. The ideas presented by her in this book, were clearly revolutionary at the time and caused tremendous controversy.
