22 June, 2023 marks 75 years from the day the HMT Empire Windrush docked in Tilbury, bringing a generation of Caribbean people to Britain, many of them coming to London and working for the NHS and the city's public transport network. We visited Brixton's Black Cultural Archives to explore their fascinating collections, and talk to Ayshah Johnston about their new Windrush exhibition, opens 22 June. We also chatted to Hugh Keizs - who came to London from Jamaica in 1959 - to hear about his early memories of a new life in the UK. Watch the full-length video tour over on our YouTube. 🔊 This Black Panther screening and orchestral performance was part of the Films in Concert series at the Royal Albert Hall. There’s several more to come - top of our list of the rest of the season: Lord of the Rings: Two Towers. 🔊 This is the Royal Albert Hall so even the cheapest highest tickets (which ours were: £25, back of the upper circle) still have a great view/acoustics. Some of the series will also have standing tickets for around £20. 🔊 Chineke! Orchestra were conducted by @anthony_parnther. Massamba Diop, who performed on the OG score for Black Panther, is the talking drum soloist. 🔊 @chinekeorchestra are currently the resident orchestra at @southbankcentre (follow for more info on their next performances) 🔊 There’s another live score screening over at the @eventimapollo in west London: Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. Amazing score and soundtrack, so this (bringing together DJs and orchestra) should be incredible 🔥
