i decided i was tired of seeing all the cool collectives & communities for muslim girls in london that i was too far away to join, & decided to make my own. & yes, the moon again, you know i had to keep it on brand. if you’re like me & tired of the sleep-work-eat-repeat cycle of post-graduation life where making friends in your early 20s outside of work seems impossible, then come & join. or if you’re just looking for new people to talk to and experience new things with, this is for you too. everything i’m saying sounds awkwardly formal - especially the google forms you need to fill in to register your interest - but really i’m just trying to find other muslims to hang out with because my current friends are too unavailable for me (am i joking? not sure). fill in the link in my bio if you’re interested & share around - one of my friends said the first few meet ups will just be people i know,,, which is pretty likely but i guess you have to start somewhere —

thinking about pursuing art (of any kind) always seems to be discouraged or seen as a lesser role to have in a world of STEM and tech appreciation — society has normalised the invalidation of creative careers as legitimate roles whilst hypocritically relying on film, TV, art, books, advertising (etc),, (i'm partnering with @adobe on their #LovetheJourney campaign to share my creative journey, and what inspires me to make art. visit the Love the Journey webpage for more on career choices, creative influences and industry role models). growing up, I never thought about any of this, besides the fact that I enjoyed art. It was only when I got to college that it became obvious that if I chose to do something creative with my life, I would always have to fight for this decision to be seen as 'worthwhile', and would have to try even harder than my peers, as the token brown person in the room. whether I was in a classroom or at a big, prestigious event, it always felt very isolating,, it was by discovering social media & meeting tonnes of poc creatives that I felt like I had a proper creative community to gain advice from and to be inspired by. previously, my inspiration had been the art itself. drawing in the mornings as a kid before breakfast and waiting for my parents to add the work to my own art exhibition on the kitchen cupboards. then, I had an amazing art teacher who inspired and supported me. now I get to exist within spaces (online & offline) that make me feel part of something, and I use art as a means of self-expression or as a therapeutic activity when I need to get something off my mind. the people around me inspire me the most. seeing creatives of colour thrive and succeed makes me happy every day, because I had never seen myself represented in any aspect of the creative industry before & hence had never thought there was a place for me within these spaces. if you're feeling like I did - don't worry. we've all been there, & sure, the imposter syndrome never leaves, but it shouldn't stop you from working towards what you want. (& don't be afraid to ask more established creatives for advice if you need it, I still do all the time!) #Ad #AdobePartner
my instagram story is always five minutes long with a whole bunch of miscellaneous photos because that's my favourite part of each day: chasing shadows & light & colour & sunsets during my daily routine. you should try it too.
