My 20th ascent of 200 times* up El Capitan I climbed The West Face, TWF, with @russ.mcbride  Interesting to have climbed El Capitan 19 times before going to knock out the classic WF. I don't recall all the details on the ascent, but I suspect I led more than Russ as he was doing more sport climbing at the time. I think it took us a long day. Hoping Russ will chime in with any recollections he has from the day. Oh wait, I think Russ ran over to Half Dome later that day and soloed the Snake Dike route on Half Dome. Fricken animal!  Might as well get this out of the way... YES! I count TWF as A "Real El Capitan route," "a bigwall route on El Capitan," What ever.  TWF, is as long as The Zodiac. TWF speed record is longer than The Nose or Zodiac. (Oh shoot that's going to get some action.) The route is still bivied on, - sometimes on purpose. 90% of the people who climb it do not free it.  Robbins and Herbert put it up.=FA  Jardine and Price freed it.=FFA  (I keep track of the East Buttress of El Capitan ascents that I do, -14 so far. Might be fun to count them toward my 200El Cap ascents to tweak the real bigwall climbers)  Climbing Snob: if someone says they climbed El Capitan, and they only have climbed the East Buttress or only climbed The West Face, they are lame. It lowers the class of people "in the club" who've actually climbed a "real bigwall route on El Capitan." If this is your attitude, that's ok, but don't bother putting effort into convincing me to hold that attitude, I won't. I suspect there are thousands of people who have ascended El Capitan, jugging every pitch and they say they have climbed El Capitan. - I am OK with those folks. In fact introduce me, I like leading.  1994 was a big year for me on El Capitan. I climbed El Capitan 12 times via 4 different routes, two of them new to me. My biggest previous year I only climbed El Capitan 4 times.  TWF ascent was my 5th ascent of El Capitan that year. So... Photos not in order. But... I climbed out of The Ditch three times in seven days last week, all three times via El Capitan. Well I was in Hawaii in July, traingvto go attempt The Lotus flower tower with @scott.clark777 and @billwright510 which was training to climb Manure Pile Buttress with @jessiegraffpwr and @oliviavivian and crash an engagement party on top, which was training for, climbing El Capitan, which was training for hopping on the @treadwall_fitness , which was training for @therealtwofourhell which is training for .... The Goal:  "run" around the North America Wall on El Cap with a GPS track that looks like the shape of The USA!  @maxbuschini and I made it! 17 hours CTC ( Car To Car )  it was a 5.5 mile loop. Our mile time wasn't so great. We likely could have improved our time by swinging wide, but the shape might have been tough to do as well as this. Challenge : we figure no ones going to beat 6 minute mile times on this loop. Even sub one hour mile time would be tough, (but a few have done it).  Give it a go and let us know how it goes for you.  It was a nice day for us, we ran into : Sam, Sean, Tim, and Hunter from Australia along the route. The temps were awesome, 52 to 78 degrees for the day. Light breeze up high. Yesterday Mark Melvin and I climbed Lurking Fear. We started at 08:01 and finished at 18:52. Oh man the last time I climbed The Captain with Mark was June 2008! Met Mark in the meadow at 05:56 and we went over rack, rope, food, gear, etc, then hiked to the base. I led for two hours then Mark led for three, the me for three, then Mark for two. Approximately. So fun, like we hadn't climbed in a week or so. Lurking Fear is in the shade until noon or so, if you climb fast enough you could stay in the shade all the way to Thanksgiving ledge. We did the whole route pretty much in perfect conditions.
