Hear what Cillian has to say about the Fitness Goose Run Club 'I initially got in touch with Andrew after completing the Kerry Way ultra Lite, although I was putting in a lot of training I wasn’t happy with how the race went and I felt I could perform better. I wanted to enter the Kerry Way Ultra Nite Event and Andrew laid out a plan of how I could complete the race and be happy with my performance. I probably did less running leading up to the Nite race but it was structured in such a way that was more specific to the event and incorporated a lot more elevation and trails than I had previously been doing. With Andrew's help and the support of the fitness goose community, I was able to complete the Kerry Way Ultra Nite and finish in 6th place. I have also had two half marathon PB’s and two marathon PB’s in 2022 as a result of the programmes the Fitness Goose has provided' 'I have really enjoyed being a part of the Fitness Group Running Club Community, I traveled to the Paris Marathon with the club and also Oslo for the 80k Ecotrail and met some really great people. Congratulations to all our runners who were running in Cork and Dublin today with runners in the 10, Half and Full Marathon in Cork and also group who took part in the womens mini marathon. #fitnessgooserunclub Special shoutout to @chrislauder and @dawnzer18 who are brother and sister and both ran Cork today and finishing within 7 minutes of each other with a big PB for Dawn for 3:26 and Chris ran a marathon best of 3:19. Keep an eye on more race updates from the weekend on socials. It's been a hot day, and I think all the post race photos have got lost in pints of cool lemonade. Thanks to everyone who came to our Norwegian Oslo Ecotrail trip. Some great photos and also great opportunities for some of our club members to meet for the very first time at the startline of a race and to run together. My race report - @ecotrailoslo Oslo was a tough day out for myself. I had a plan and a goal time that was missed. It was the first time I had ever been sick after a race. That was no craic. It was a warm day, but I never felt too warm. The course was a little trickier than expected but wouldn’t change it for anything. I should have opted for running in the Brooks Caldera (what I used in Kerry last year) as I think it would have been perfect for this course. The first 25k was very comfortable, and this 50k was supposed to be a nice race on a journey of getting trail volume back up to 3-5 hour runs. However, I know the block of training for these races just didn’t have enough accumulated running fatigue to run them effectively. I had a good few little cramping moments, but none slowed me down or caused me to stop. Electrolytes were flowing well, and perhaps the heat didn’t assist, but the cramping is primarily down to a lack of longer runs (and time on feet). Now, I know some will read this and maybe think why haven’t I done all the runs I need to do. And I could easily put forward a few environmental reasons. But I’m not going too. You want to run races confident from 50-100km, then you need distance in the legs and back to back distance in the legs. However, it is time to start training. And it starts now. Hungry. Excited. | Ecotrail Oslo - Tomorrow | There is a big Irish contingent over for the Ecotrail Oslo across the 31, 50, and 80km distances! Just a little shoutout to our 4 individual sub 3 marathon runners so far in 2023. Approaches were slightly different for all 4, but all bedded in solid principles. These were all PBs and first sub 3’s for all these runners. What’s evening more exciting is that all runners weekly volumes were just about 60-75k, with a top out week at 80k (although one of the runners did have a slightly higher top out week) All runners have come through strong from all marathons and are now on track for bigger, faster and sustainable goals. Now with the ability to run with higher volume, and enter marathon programs at a stronger baseline you can only imagine how far these times are gonna drop. #sub3marathon #sub3marathontraining #marathontraining #dublinmarathon
