“For so many years—not one, not two, not three, many years—everyone thought my goal of becoming a singer was a joke,” says our June/July cover star #KarolG. “It was a challenge to keep believing in myself. And if it wasn’t for my parents convincing me that I could make it, I would have felt ashamed and abandoned the whole thing.” The Colombian superstar discusses navigating the music industry, protecting her privacy, and breaking barriers at the link in bio. Earlier this year, #KarolG’s #MañanaSeráBonito became the first all-Spanish-language album from a female artist to ever debut at number one in the U.S. on the Billboard 200 chart. And she did it by being herself. “If people are connecting with the album, they are connecting directly, literally, with me,” she says of the project, which was inspired by her experience with heartbreak and fame. “I could never have imagined that such a dark period in my life would transform me into the person I am today. The situation challenged me to learn, to appreciate what I had, to find happiness within myself, not in someone else.... I think that is really the soul of the album and what has made it so successful.” Our June/July cover star discusses navigating the music industry, protecting her privacy, and breaking barriers at the link in bio. Today, on the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and ending the constitutional right to abortion, @VP Kamala Harris has a message for ELLE readers: “My concern is that so many women are silently suffering, and we want to make sure that we’re reaching out to let folks know that we’re not gonna judge them. We want them to know that they exist in a country where there is care and compassion and an acknowledgement of the right of each woman to make decisions for herself.” She continues, “On this issue, it’s really important to also just remember: You don’t have to abandon your faith or your deeply held beliefs to agree that the government should not be telling a woman what to do.” For more from the vice president on the “heart-wrenching” consequences of this year’s spike in anti-abortion laws, head to the link in bio.

Texas denied them live-saving abortions. Now 15 women are suing their home state to save reproductive rights for everyone. The unprecedented lawsuit, backed by @reprorights is the first case against a state brought by people whose pregnancies were directly impacted by the fall of Roe v. Wade. The suit aims to clarify murky abortion laws, but perhaps its greater purpose is the message it sends to the public. By taking on Texas, these women have become a symbol of resistance in the fight for abortion care—working tirelessly to protect others from the pain, fear, and paranoia they all endured. ELLE Senior Editor @minutaglio spoke with plaintiffs Amanda Zurawski, Lauren Miller, Anna Zargarian, and Ashley Brandt. Their stories at the link in bio.
#SolangeKnowles is a Grammy-winning musician, performance artist, director...the list goes on. The fact that she’s expanded her resume yet again shouldn’t be a surprise, even if her latest venture is a little unexpected. The multi-hyphenate spoke with @ericagonzo about “Small Matter Art Objects: Handblown Glassware 001,” a collection of sculptural glasses she designed through her creative collective, Saint Heron, and in collaboration with Philadelphia-based glassblower Jason McDonald. “I took some glassblowing classes a couple of years ago, and I became really connected to the materiality,” Solange says. “I think coming from a dance background, there is a song and dance; you’re constantly having to move and you’re having to follow the glass. You’re having to intuitively make movement and sort of surrender to this material so that you can get to the finish line. Otherwise, it sort of freezes a moment in time. So I felt like it was a really good practice and surrender for me. And from there I began to think of ways to create objects out of the material, and I started to just gather ideas and sketches and build the design for the collection.” More on the collection, her inspirations from Luther Vandross, and taking up space at the link in bio.
“How are you using your time, voice, and resources to ensure that Black people experience real freedom and justice in the same way you do?” asks @marquiaw in an essay for ELLE.com. This summer, it seems, everyone wants to be rich. We’re idolizing the “stealth wealth” of the characters on #Succession, following the fashion statements from #GwynethPaltrow’s ski trial, aspiring to emulate so-called “old money” style (a designation so malleable, it’s recently been used to describe the fashion sense of both #SofiaRichie and #KylieJenner), and craving the “coastal grandmother” look, which seems to come with both beachfront property and a hefty retirement fund. Tennis, golf, and ski style are at their sartorial peaks, respectively, as though fashion is on a permanent summer Friday. At the same time, economic uncertainty prevails, the Writers Guild of America is on strike, millennials and Gen Z are rejecting always-on hustle culture, corporate officewear is officially camp, labor activists are style icons, and “eat the rich” is being bandied about even more than it was in the Occupy Wall Street years. @niquepeeks unpacks the latest style obsession at the link in bio.
#KourtneyKardashian and #TravisBarker are officially having a baby together. Kardashian dropped the news she’s pregnant to the world—and Barker himself—in the most rocker wife way. Link in bio to see her announcement video and read more about her journey to parenthood with Barker.
Actress #MayaHawke tells ELLE culture writer @laurpuckett that working with the A-list #AsteroidCity cast wasn’t just about improving her acting—it was a lesson in navigating fame. 🔗 in bio to read more about the #WesAnderson film cast.
