Olivier Mourgue 'Djinn' sofa Airborne, 1960s For hire only (for now) Olivier Mourgue (1939-) is a French artist and industrial designer who in 1963 began working for Airborne International, where he designed this iconic Djinn sofa. Mourgue took inspiration from Djinn – Arabian genies that could adopt any form, human or animal. This shines through in the silhouette of the chair, with the chair being captured in a state between human and inanimate. The Djinn sofa is arguably one of Olivier Mourgues most coveted designs, made famous by Stanley Kubrick’s film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. Only further verifying it as an icon of space age design. Euclidean geometry inspired Lella and Massimo Vignelli 'Kono' coffee table Casigliani, 1985 A sculptural Kono coffee table designed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli. A thick sheet of glass appears to precariously balance on a copper cone and marble block, however this illusion is far from the truth. Cleverly designed, taking inspiration from Euclidean geometry, the coffee table is perfectly balanced, both structurally and figuratively. H37 W115 H80 cm #betonbrutlondon #betonbrutstock #bbstock

Kazuhide Takahama Nefer 3 lamp Sirrah, Italy c1970 Kazuhide Takahama was born in Japan in 1930 and after completing his studies in Architecture in Tokyo he started working in Kazuo Fuioka’s studio. In 1957, he went to Italy to visit the Triennale in Milan where he met Dino Gavina. He developed his own well-defined style in a climate of profuse cultural exchanges. The furniture and lighting he designed often features clean lines and formal restraint. The Nefer 3 table lamp has a lovely poetic quality to it. The base of the lamp is made from a polished white marble. The base supports four metal columns in which a white fabric shade is draped over the top housing a bulb within. We continue upstairs on our tour of a Highbury home renovated by Daytrip studio and furnished by us. Up to a master bedroom in sultry green hues.

In the bay we placed a chaise by De Pas D'Urbino & Lomazzi in amber mohair that unfurls into a daybed and shimmers in the light. A side table by Archive for Space @archive_for_space, itself a balance of raw steel and amoebic curves, evolve the project's theme of minimalism versus sensual forms.

A lamp by Kazuhide Takahama adds poetry - its soft cotton drapes slung nonchalantly over chrome and marble supports. The transformation of a chair into a daybed. De Pas D’urbino & Lomazzi Galeotta Chaise Longue BBB Bonacina, Italy, 1960s Jonathan de Pas, Donato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi are a legendary band of Milanese architects and designers who began to collaborate on iconic and unconventional designs in the 1960s. They embraced the pop spirit of their age, incorporating the best in Italian design and rejecting the stark functionality of the international style. This wonderful multifunctional chaise longue is made up of squishy wedges that can be reordered to make a daybed. It proclaims the design philosophy of its makers in its playful simplicity and the prioritisation of comfort and fun. W90 H60 D85 cm #betonbrutlondon #betonbrutstock #bbstock

Interlocking granite sculpture Unknown, 20th Century Two sleek modernist forms interact in space, each declaring different materials and patination – one a compressed triangle, the other a torus. The forms are understated and organic, like sea-eroded pebbles, which is counterpoised by a sexual dynamic. It is a freestanding sculpture which also responds to viewing in the frontal plane – it could function either as a centrepiece or positioned laterally on a shelf.
