How to avoid nose diving! We must admit, nose diving can be very comical to watch but when it happens to you it can be very frustrating. Here are the reasons why you nose dive and some tips to avoid it! Nose Diving occurs: > When paddling between Stage B and Stage C - It can help to take a few glances over your shoulder to read what the wave is doing and to adjust your positioning. > When you Hesitate - This leads to you catching the wave at stage C, then that is too late! > When you are not paddling enough for the wave - When don’t paddle enough, lose your speed and get pushed forward by the wave. > When you are looking down the wave - Where you look is where you go, so if you’re looking down the wave (bottom) that’s where you will go. Avoiding nose diving by: > Paddling between stage A and stage B - This is the perfect stage to catch green waves. > Always paddling with confidence - Paddle for the wave like you really want it and don’t forget your good paddling technique. > Looking in the direction you want to go and not looking down - Look to the left or the right depending on which way the wave is peeling. #howtosurf #learntosurf #surfing #surf #surfcourses #surfcoaching #surfcoachingretreats #surfcamp #surfschool

Catching unbroken waves is an art that takes time to master. Here are a few pointers you might want to keep in mind to catch unbroken waves more easily. 1. Sit about 5 meters further than where the majority of the waves break. This is an approximation; you might want to sit further out on bigger days. Start paddling 100% perpendicular to the wave and start by giving a minimum of 6 to 8 strong paddle strokes. 2. Keep your Head Low when the Wave Lifts you - At the moment when you get “lifted” up on the wave, you can keep your head low to put weight over the board’s nose to help gravity pull you down on waves that you might not have caught otherwise. 3. Last Paddle Strokes - Often, beginners and intermediates think they paddled enough, but they didn’t. When you’re doubting if you’ve paddled enough for a wave, just give those 2 extra paddle strokes before taking off. Once you feel your tail lift, and after you feel you have built enough momentum gliding with the wave, put your hands on the board beside your pectorals, arch your back and take off! Extra Tip: Where you look dictates where you will go. If you want to go right or left in order to follow the wave, you have to look in that direction during the entire process of catching the wave and taking off.
