A sea tale 🐟🌊 This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Italian writer Italo Calvino. The internationally acclaimed Italian mural artist @_millo_ wanting to pay tribute to the endless creativity and imagination of his beloved writer, came to Greece to create a large-scale mural. He was inspired by one of his favorite childhood readings. Cola Pesce also known as Pesce Cola (meaning Nicholas the fish) is an Italian folk tale derived from the medieval folklore of Sicily and Naples, about a boy who loves the sea so much that he eventually turns into a fish. Italo Calvino adapted and included this tale in his book 'Italian Folktales (1980). Millo's mural underlines the dreamy and imaginative dimension of fairy tales and at the same time allows the viewer to recognize the personal path of freedom of all those who will never be fully understood by the others. Millo is a special case in the street art movement with a unique personal artistic universe. His impressively sized murals feature black and white cityscapes painted with elaborate pictorial art and giant figures of inhabitants exploring their urban environment. Reflecting familiar sensations such as love, hope, strength, loneliness, and fear, the protagonists of the narratives take us back to the simplicity of human emotions. This is the new large scale mural painted by Belgian artist @kitsunejolene which decorates the outside wall surface of the 4th-5th joint middle high school in the Athens district of Korydallos. It was inaugurated by the Belgian Embassy on Monday 7th of November. The inauguration was held in cooperation with the municipality of Korydallos and our team. The title is "The beauty of vulnerability". Central to the mural is a young woman and her cat, surrounded by the Parnassus Peony, an endemic Parnassus mountain flower that is sensitive to climate change, a reference to the importance of the environment and animals. In addition to the artistic aspect, this project also has a social and urban dimension due to the desire to bring colour and culture to a neighbourhood and more specifically to a school, as a gift to children. The theme chosen by the embassy is sustainability and sustainable development, an important issue for both Greece and Belgium. On 15th and 17th of September we will be in Vyronas ! 📆 "School Streets 2023" is a celebration for the safe movement of children to school, with street art, music and games! The Municipality of Vyronas participates in the "European Mobility Week" with a two-day event dedicated to sustainable and safe mobility for students. This Friday and Sunday, the Tatoulon street in front of the schools will be closed and... handed over to the students. 🎨 From Friday morning, the event starts in earnest with the creation of a large mural by the artist Achilles (10.00-17.00). 🚹 At the same time there will be a temporary pedestrianisation of Tataoulon & Kerkyras streets (13.00-15.00). ⚠️Την Sunday from early morning we start with asphalt art (09.00-11.00). Well-known Greek street artists will paint six crossings of Tataoulon street, realizing as many works. 🌈 A rich programme of additional activities follows :an art workshop with the painter/illustrator Chrysolie, Face Painting and the educational game "Stamatis and Grigoris in action" on road safety (11.00-13.00) 🎸 At 13.00 the action will be accompanied by the sounds of the Woodpeckers, a rock/blues band with a rich CV, performances in many music scenes, live stages and events. 🚲 The weekend will end with a SUPER draw! Recently, a dramatic event occurred in our country. Croatian hooligans crossed the borders, and on the occasion of the football match between AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb, they killed a fan of the Greek team. Of course, it doesn't matter that they're Croatians . They could be Greek hooligans who went to Croatia, Italy, Turkey, or wherever. It is inconceivable that in 2023 there are people ready to destroy the lives of others or even their own for a football preference—for a simple game that should give us joy and entertainment and nothing more And of course, it is good to bear in mind that the tolerance and fostering of fanaticism by those who run the clubs encourage the 'fanaticism' of the fans and violent behavior at sports grounds. Unfortunately, the state is also unable to take drastic measures, and the phenomenon is perpetuated.
