In case you missed the life update on my stories a few weeks ago, Baby GIRL Carew is due in December! This was a major reason for my decision to step away from teaching for the time being. Maternity leave two years in a row, plus paying for 2 under 2 in daycare just wasn’t a possibility for our family. I’m nervous and excited for the years ahead with my babies, but I’d be lying if I said the last 2 months have been a breeze. The time I’ve gotten to spend one-on-one with my son has been amazing, but I don’t ever take off the “Mom” hat. It’s a different kind of exhausted and tired than teacher tired 🤣 I know once we get into more of a routine that it will get easier. What a life I get to live! #formerteacher #SAHM #2under2 #stayathomemom

And just like that, I finished my fourth year of teaching and am all moved out of my favorite classroom ever. This season of life has brought upon a TON of change, the biggest being... I AM LEAVING THE CLASSROOM (for now). My sweet baby boy turned 1 last month and after a lot of discussion and conversation with my hardworking and incredibly supportive husband, we’ve decided that I am going to stay home with him for the time being. I’m so so so excited for this new chapter but extremely sad to be leaving teaching for now. Maybe I’ll be back, maybe not. Feel free to stick around on this account if you want. Obviously my focus won’t be classroom decor, organization, and lessons like it used to be, but I am hoping to share about staying home and some different experiences I have with my boy 💙 HAPPY SUMMER! ☀️

Today will be a great day. The sun is shining. Birds are in my tree outside the classroom. My wonderful admin brought me a giant coffee after tough parent teacher conferences last night. I have so much to be grateful for. How lucky am I that I GET to do what I do?

I’ve been working very hard at not giving my time and focus to school just yet. After all, it is still summer break AND I am on maternity leave until November. All the unknowns are driving me crazy, but I’m trying to make a conscious effort at pouring into my family and soaking up this time with my precious boy. Please forgive me and have grace with me over the next few months as I adjust to being a new mom and eventually teaching during a pandemic. For now, please enjoy my sweet, happy boy!!!! 💙 . #teachermaternityleave #teachersonbreak #teacherlife #iteach3rd #3rdgradeteacher #thirdgradeteacher #newmom #momlife #mama #boymom #teacher #teachermom #michiganteacher

The boy and I walked a 5k this morning ☀️ . I know this is an account dedicated to documenting my life as a teacher, but we’re going to have a moment of honesty and vulnerability here. I want to set a good example for my son. I want him to look back and remember that his mama took care of her physical self, but more importantly, her mental and emotional health. I have always struggled with anxiety, but since Truett was born, I’ve been in a battle with severe postpartum anxiety. I spend a considerable amount of time each day worrying about what school is going to look like, even though I’m not going back until November. I cry and panic at the thought of bringing my sweet boy to a stranger when it’s time for me to go back to work. I have a panic attack at least 3 times a week. For the last few weeks, I’ve tried convincing myself it’s normal to feel this way after you have a baby. It’s normal to worry if you’re doing an okay job or that you’re doing everything you can to be the best parent you can be. But the CONSTANT worry and panic is NOT normal. I met with my doctor to discuss next steps. I am choosing to pursue medication and exercise as a way of coping. I’m hoping that by focusing on getting a walk in each day and drinking plenty of water I’ll be able to take hold of my anxiety, as well as my physical health. This will help me be the best version of myself I can be, in turn being the best mother, wife, teacher, daughter, and friend I can be, too 🤍 I don’t share all of this to gain any sort of pity, to make you feel sorry for me or even to sell you a health and fitness program (been there, done that... not for me.). I’m sharing this so any other new mama out there knows that they aren’t alone in this battle. We’ve got this!!! . . #postpartumanxiety #realtalk #teacherlife #newmom #firsttimemom

If you would have told me last year that going back to school this year would look totally different than ever before? That we’d have to be wearing masks and keeping a safe distance away from students and our fellow educators? Will my room even be able to look like this this year? How will students collaborate? How will I run small groups? So many unknowns, but I just need to focus on the things I can control: creating as safe of a space as possible, loving my kids well, and doing the best I can in an unimaginable situation. I can’t wait until we can safely be back in our classrooms, surrounded by giggles and learning 🍎 . #michiganteachers #teacher #3rdgrade #3rdgradeteacher #thirdgrade #thirdgradeteacher #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram #teachertribe #backtoschool #iteachtoo #classroom #classroomdecor #classroomsetup

Anyone else a sucker for summer professional development? Each summer I snag a handful of highly recommended PD books to thumb through during break. Truth be told, this one is from last summer and I didn’t have a chance to read it. I’m hoping this will be the summer I learn how happy teachers change the world ☀️ . #michiganteachers #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #professionaldevelopment #happyteacher #teachersonbreak #3rdgrade #3rdgradeteacher #thirdgrade #thirdgradeteacher

I wish I would have known when I left this room on March 13th that it would be the last time it would be full of laughter, hugs, and teaching as I knew it. I would have snuck in an extra hug, more big smiles that weren’t covered by masks, and time for the kids to play together closely. I know we’re all anxious to know what the world of teaching will look like when we return to the safety of our classroom homes this fall. It will be a tough road to navigate. I miss my kids and I miss my room and I miss NORMAL 💔 . #teacher #iteach #iteachtoo #iteach345 #3rdgrade #thirdgrade #3rdgradeteacher #thirdgradeteacher #teachersofinstagram #coronavirus #covid19 #teachersfollowteachers #teacheranxiety #imissmystudents #classroom #classroomorganization #classroomsetup #classroomdecor

It’s been a while, so it’s time for a reintroduction 🤍 Hi, I’m Taylor and I am a 3rd grade teacher in mid-Michigan! Here are some things about myself... 🍎 The 2020-21 school year will be my 4th year teaching. 🍎 I became a mama to my sweet little guy Truett in May, so I will be on maternity leave at the beginning of the school year until later in the fall. 🍎 I love iced coffee (with caramel and 2% milk!), Chick-fil-A, donuts, and sushi. 🍎 My favorite thing to do in the summer is spend time outside, especially at the lake! 🍎 My favorite subject to teach is math because you can make it really hands on and conceptual for students. 🍎 I have an unhealthy obsession with school supplies. My favorite has got to be pens!!! . Do we have anything in common? . . . #teacher #iamateacher #iteachtoo #iteach #iteach345 #3rdgrade #3rdgradeteacher #thirdgrade #thirdgradeteacher #teachersofinstagram #igteachers #teachersfollowteachers #michiganteacher #michigan
