In the footsteps of Apollo Hylates, the God of the Woodlands. ——- Apollo Hylates was the protector of the ancient City of Kourion. The sanctuary is situated just a few kilometers west of Kourion and it is one of the most important ancient sacral areas of the island. Apollo was worshiped as Hylates, meaning God of the Woodlands. His worship goes back to the 8th c. BC and the sanctuary went under several changes and modifications until the Romans times. The sanctuary is under the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus and it’s open to the public daily. Stunning Byzantine architecture 🤩 / Agia Paraskevi Church, Geroskipou-Paphos, Cyprus 🇨🇾 Agia Paraskevi church is a worldwide recognized monument of Byzantine architecture, one of the few basilicas with five domes. The monument dates back to the 9th century A.D. and it’s interior is decorated with beautiful frescoes of the Byzantine art. It has been argued that the church stands on the ruins of an ancient temple dedicate to the goddess Aphrodite, however this implication has not been verified.
