If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it. -David Sobel 🍂🍁💛 Enjoying a fine dose of nature therapy in that gloriously golden afternoon light. ✨🍁💫 🍂#liveyouradventure #ebcontributor #ebkids
We did it! Marley and I set out yesterday morning and ran the final 30 miles of the “gold metal challenge” for @alexslemonade & my teammates at @uclahealth in honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. It has been close to a year since either of us last ran this distance, so yesterday’s mission was a big feat for both Marley and me. To help raise both awareness and money during Peadiatric Cancer Awareness month I teamed up with one of Bodhi’s incredible doctors, Dr. Jonas, as well as his fellow researchers to run our hearts out during the month of September. As many of you know, running was once something I loved deeply and put a lot of heart and effort into. Somewhere along the journey of hardship from Bodhi’s fight with cancer I found myself completely depleted of any need or desire to really “push it”. I had been taxed beyond my limits and the thought of putting my mind or body into a place of stress was something I learned to avoid like the plague. I am happy to say that it seems like something has shifted. When I was asked to be a part of this event I was so excited and now find it perfectly fitting that the one thing that took away my passion happened to be the very cause of bringing it back. Yesterday, Marley and I ran 30 mountain miles from Mammoth to McGee (28) adding in a little celebratory, convoluted extension (2.5) to bring us to our goal. It was an absolutely stellar day in the mountains with my girl and I am so honored to know that this little effort on my part helped raise $400 for the researchers at UCLA. This $400 provides one day of research, and if that one day happens to be someone’s “AHA!” moment day, then perhaps another child out there will be granted an outcome like Bodhi. Better yet, perhaps even a cure for cancer! 🙏❤️ thank you so much to those of you who got involved, ran and donated. You guys are awesome!
What does it mean to #liveyouradventure? For me, it has been to hold close those things I love most about life. The passion, the thrills, the excitement, the sharing and giving, the purpose. Not giving those things up through motherhood, rather, sharing those things, all of those things, with my kids. So much has been gained by doing so and the things we experience together is invaluable. For them, it is to get out of school on a Friday and run their way around the vast and expansive Sierra landscapes they’ve grown to know so well. We get some warm clothes, a little bit of firewood and head to some of our favorite spots to go explore. Watch the sunset, maybe the sunrise, get dirty and enjoy our time... together. Couldn’t ask for anything more. This is the life! #EBkids #ebcontributor
There is something deeply luring about all the fresh air and freedom that the mountains, deserts and open road provide! I was so happy to finally get my motorcycle license last week that I had to celebrate by packing up my up my panniers. I met one of my best friends and rode out into Death Valley NP and over to Wacoba/ Eureka Sand Dunes for the day. To say that I’m psyched on a $12 gas tank and more than 50 mpg would be an understatement. ❤️🌵🏔🏍💨
Can the colors of a wooly worm predict the severity of the upcoming winter? The are a lot of old wives tales and folklore that claim they can tell how tough a winter will be by observing certain signs around you. All I know, is that it’s technically still summer and it’s already snowing in the Eastern Sierra! ❄️ Despite all that, in some places, like the Yosemite high country, it’s still glorious AF!
How do you like to spend your school nights? The kids and I have been soaking up and savoring the last days of summer in the best ways we know how. Watching the sun set, the near full moon rise, scrambling around through the boulders and singing some Grateful Dead. For us, there isn’t a better way to spend a school night. Being outside is what it’s all about ❤️🌙 #liveyouradventure #ebcontributor #EBkids
The sun was setting when we made our way up onto the 1st pass (easy 5th class) of the Circuito Alpino. The views were incredible. We got our first look at the massive glaciated mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash and were so excited to have a birds eye view of what was to come in the days ahead. We intended to make it down to the lake below to make a camp and get some much needed sleep, but as darkness fell, the labyrinth of cliff bands had other plans for us. The boys would not take my advice of trending left across the upper shelf, so instead, we eventually found ourselves exhausted, making camp in the waist high devil grass atop the cliffs with no water. The most beautiful alpine glow brought in the new day. We packed up and were on our way... left, across the upper shelf, just as I had suspected 😉 @bigagnes_
Running through the alps was like a dream. The scenery had been peeled straight off a movie screen and placed into my reality. The Swiss cows, their bells and the music they made in the mountains were so much like being in the Sound of Music that I found myself singing Julie Andrews songs regularly. On the last day, Andy and I made it to Zermatt, the home of the Matterhorn. I had seen it a hundred times in books and photographs. I have seen plenty of impressive mountains. Yet still, there is something remarkably impressive about turning the corner and seeing the Matterhorn with your own eyes for the very first time. It stands proudly alone dominating the skyline. It is luring and it takes your breath away. The Swiss alps stole my heart and it remains somewhere back there near Zermatt. A very special place where the line is fine between living in a dream or reality. I can’t wait to return! Next time to spend some quality time with that mountain ❤️🇨🇭 _____________________________________________________ Unknowing of my experience and love for the Matterhorn in Switzerland, Skye saw the Matterhorn at Disneyland for the very first time yesterday. At first sight and with so much excitement Skye asked if we were going to climb it. When I told her it was not a climb, rather a ride, I couldn’t help but giggle at her deep disapproval. Apparently Skye shares the same attraction to climbing this beautiful, luring mountain. #thatsmygirl👩👧💗 ______________________________________________________
Today this bright and incredibly powerful little being turned 7!! 🎂 . I find myself at a loss of words capable of properly expressing my gratitude towards being able to celebrate this special day. A day that, just a few short months ago, we were unsure would ever come again. . These 7 beautiful years with Bodhi have been profoundly life changing. I have never known a love greater, nor have I ever seen such beauty in the world through any other means. Bodhi has a way of touching those around him in ways so deep and so meaningful that you find yourself wondering where he came from. How can someone so young be so insightful and impact the lives of those around them? . These years have been the ultimate blessing. I am a better person for knowing Bodhi and every day I feel honored to be his mom. Thank you for choosing me Bodhi! 🙏 I love you more than you will ever know. . Wishing you the Happiest Birthday!! 🥳🎉🎁🎊
Everything is bigger in the Alps. The ascents and descents. The glaciers and glacial lakes. The cairns! Let’s not forget, of course, the European women. I fit right in. Take me hoooome! Ich liebe dich 💙🏔
Enjoying feeling small in this big, extraordinary world!! This was a double horn kind of day.🤘 Barrhorn + Schöllihorn + a nearly 9,000’ descent for knee-breaking good measure. Back-to-back big days in the mountains with big climbs, big descents and awe-inspiring bonus peaks... I couldn’t love this place more.⚡️ #viavalais
There will a come a time that this will all be so deeply ingrained in her, that despite any efforts to stray, she will find herself running back to what she knows best; her roots. This has been and will always be home.
