Author headshot (fall, 2020) 📸: @tinytayloroakes MU: @miss_obscure 🔮 There are certain moments that you arrive at YOU. Then, of course, you go on changing—and thank goodness for that. This is a culmination of the last two years caught in a single look, a single shot. This is me as the most me, for now. She feels good. @theorgasmbook
By intimately exploring the experiences of another human life, we have the opportunity to consider our own. @menwhotakebaths is the practice of open communication in an effort to reveal a deeper understanding of how we relate, empathize, and make meaning of our shared existence. We play in a space of uncertainty. There are no wrong answers, just curiosity-driven questions. By examining cultural forces that affect the male identity, including toxic masculinity, feminism, consent, sexuality, anger, and upbringing, and approaching these conversations in an unguarded way, we remain in a state of compassion and exploration. We uncover truth and pursue wisdom, rather than debate and perform. Even those who made notes ahead of the interviews or practiced their answers laughed it off once they got in the bath. It's a child-like activity with adult intent. It’s joy and playfulness! @flynnskidmore posited that it’s like a return to the womb and a healing from severance with the mother; the feminine. I’m going to explore this deeper. What I’ve always known is that @menwhotakebaths is a tool for empathy. Empathy is seeing yourself in another, and loving them as you love yourself. That’s healing the divide. Plus, who doesn’t appreciate good hygiene? ———— We have a date set for our next shoot (with a focus on video) and some community-building initiatives to get the conversation going worldwide. THIS IS THE WORK. Thank you for being here for it! 🛁 woooooooooooo bubbles!! Photography: @jahgrey
Customizing your relationship means honouring it as it is, and allowing it to evolve as you do.
When did you have your sexual debut? When it comes to virginity, we define it by what terminates it. And what terminates virginity? A man. Therefore, the implication is that the “moment” she becomes “a woman,” is defined by penetration, and something lost. When you create this idea that a woman’s sexual journey is defined by a single moment, you reinforce that one gender is beholden to another (young men have not asked for this either), and that heterosexuality is not only the dominant sexual expression, but delegitimizes the many other sexual circumstances that have a profound impact on our development. To me, a sexual debut is any pinnacle moment where you feel most like yourself in relation to your sexuality. Virginity as a term and construct is not conducive to freedom, and it reinforces a narrow view of what constitutes sex. When it comes to sexuality, a significant shift away from shame or ownership is necessary, as is a shift towards autonomy and celebration. You don’t lose, you gain. Although Sexual Debut might not be where we end up, I want virginity to be what we grow away from. It is my belief that sexual freedom is imperative for equality. I asked why supporters backed the campaign to rebrand virginity to sexual debut. Swipe for some of those answers. Oh...AND THE SHIRTS SHIPPED TODAY!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Clip from my interview with @taymocha for @letstalkaboutit_podcast — full episode coming soon!! Photography by @tinytayloroakes

My Omi sent a photo of me bathing in the sink at our family cabin (swipe). Not too long ago, I was sitting in a larger sink with a few of my favourite humans. We were celebrating friendship, spontaneity, acceptance, and power. Friendship because some were meeting for the first time but “that little voice in my head” told me they would get along. Create space, bring good people, let it be. Spontaneity, or rather, playfulness, because it feels so damn simple to just...not “grow up.” Grow, yes, but definitely don’t forget how to have fun and say YES to the absurd or the unknown; be naked and in awe often. Hook your heart to the things you love and let them unravel you. Acceptance and power go together because we were at my sub’s house and he was serving us champagne while wearing a fox tail 🥂🦊
Once the Kickstarter ended, I asked all supporters why they chose to be part of the campaign to rebrand virginity to sexual debut. Here are some things I read: This would have changed my life to know sooner. I would have felt less shame around “losing my virginity.” My virginity was stolen from me. I felt really good about “losing my virginity” and I want all women to feel that way. I want to be free. I grew up in an evangelical megachurch that used the concept of virginity to control women. Fuck shame. Language is all the things — especially in raising two adolescent humans! and some messages directly to me: I support the woman behind this. + a fan of what you do and how you do it / humans need to pay attention!! THANK YOU. I hear you. I won’t stop listening.
