I got to spend a long weekend at the Alvord desert & it was something else! I even took some of our gorgeous new Kantha quilts with me to photograph. Kantha is a Bengali word that means “old cloth.” It is a type of embroidery craft that comes from the eastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, specifically Bangladesh and in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Odisha. Old saris are stacked on each other and hand-stitched to make a thin blanket. Not every Kantha is the same. 🙌🏼 Women have been making Kantha quilts out of their worn sari’s (the traditional dress of Indian women) for hundreds of years.
