Posted @withregram • @myfamily_thebook As a writer, i’m not often lost for words but this week I’ve been stunned into silence time and time again. The very purpose of creating @myfamily_thebook was to celebrate diversity and the fact that we all have a place where we belong - regardless of our differences. In creating the book we deliberately chose not to focus on race or gender, stereotypes or norms. The first article about the book called it “political correctness gone mad”. At first, that hurt - but we shrugged it off because we believe there is nothing correct about denying, ignoring or silencing the attitudes and systems in our societies that make anybody feel other or to question their place or value in our world. The questions on each page of the book are designed to prompt conversations about the things that make us alike. To see those around us as equally important and unique. I have always loved children’s books for their ability to speak truth with simplicity and to awaken curious, innocent minds to see and build our world as it could be. Today I was reminded to move past my stunned silence and to focus again on these important conversations. Please speak to your little ones about what is happening in the world right now. Let’s stand for a world where we all belong and matter. 💚💛🧡 Please check out our stories for helpful resources for having conversations with your family.
