In a time when the world feels unsafe and life seems unfair for so many, it is hard to think about anything other than the issues our world is facing. Like many, we have been overwhelmed and consumed by all that is happening in the world around us and we have personally been spending time trying to process the information we are being exposed to. We understand these issues are not new, but this new wave of awareness has really opened our eyes and helped us learn about issues that we never really understood or knew much about, not only in America and around the world, but right here in Australia where we live.⠀ ⠀ Although it is overwhelming and difficult to navigate, we have been doing our best to learn, listen and understand more and we hope you have been too.⠀ ⠀ We feel sad, we feel anxious, we feel stressed, we feel shocked, we feel disgusted, we feel frustrated and we feel helpless, but we understand that these feelings and emotions are constant and relentless for so many and our hearts ache for anyone who has felt or is feeling anything other than love, contentment and a sense of safety in life.⠀ ⠀ As two women who do not know enough about these issues to speak about them, but are fortunate enough to have a platform with an audience that allows us to have a voice, we feel we have a responsibility to spread awareness on what is happening in the world around us. However, we are health and fitness experts, not experts in these worldly issues. So while we better try to understand what the Black Lives Matter movement means and what we can do to support the people and communities that need all of our help, we are going to continue to educate ourselves and share our learnings with you too. We are seeing many posts which have been helping us learn and finding new interesting and informed people to follow, so we are going to share them on our stories for you to explore too.⠀ ⠀ We hope you are all staying safe, healthy and strong. To finish off Booty Week, we want to leave you with some simple and effective take home points that we learnt from “The Glute Guy” @bretcontreras1 and @australianstrengthcoach to help you build your booty with your training🍑⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ To optimally build the glutes:⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ✔️Build a strong base by getting strong in the main compound movements and always include a variation of them in your program- squats, deadlifts & hip thrusts ⠀ ⠀ ✔️Learn how to perform the correct techniques when lifting weights to help you recruit your glutes optimally. Check out our last IGTV with @australianstrengthcoach for our favourite cues to get the most out of your glutes in the squat⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Use a variety of reps and sets throughout your program⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Train your glutes using a combination of heavy weights for low reps, medium weights for moderate reps and light weights for high reps throughout your training week⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Include: ⠀⠀ -Vertical hip extension exercises like squats, deadlifts, lunges and their variations⠀⠀ -Horizontal hip extension exercises like hip thrusts, glute bridges and back extensions on varying angles⠀⠀ -Hip abduction exercises like side lying clams, seated banded abductions on varying angles and banded walks⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Take the movements through different levels of effort - some to failure, some a few reps shy of failure and some nowhere near failure ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Work them on multiple angles, working them in their fully stretched position and fully contracted position⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Our personal two favourite exercises to target the glutes are Squats and Hip Thrusters and their variations. Squats target the glutes in the fully stretched position and hip thrusters attack them in the fully contracted position. Include both in your training and strong at them⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Aim to train the glutes 3 days per week, but more can work for some people too⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ✔️Apply progressive overload to your training⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Consume adequate amounts of protein for your body, to help you build and maintain muscle mass⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✔️Like always, be consistent with your training⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ To learn more about Glute Training, listen to our podcast with @bretcontreras1 on our @backtobasepodcast🎙Happy Booty Building💪🏻🍑 #bootybuilding
