2019 What A Year ✨ So, I changed my last name 👀😏 “Allow me to reintroduce myself...” . . This year I made the decision to legally keep my promise to my Mama to make her name great and build our legacy 🙏🏾✨🖤 I leaned into making my healing my top priority, spent months thinking through my next steps in life, and got clear on what legacy means to me. . . In Aug, I decided to start the process to legally change my last name to my Mother’s maiden name—-for all of her sacrifice and to continue the work she committed her life too. . . On Dec. 2nd, I officially became Rachel Danielle Latimore. And I’m grateful that my first two dedications will be in her name, literally: . . (1) On Jan. 13th, I’ll start my residency as a Doctoral student at NYU. A distant dream since my first rejection to a doctoral program in 2009 - took a whole decade and a lot life, but it’s finally happening 🙏🏾💜🖤 . . (2) And on Jan 27th (the day my Mom transitioned) I’ll graduate from my current program at NYU with my new name. Divine providence. 🙏🏾✨ . . My Mother was a first-gen college student who ended up leaving school because of challenges that a lot of first-gen college students face. But, when I was 6 years-old, she graduated college and worked her way up the career ladder -eventually becoming a CFO - as a single mother. I get my passion, drive, resilience and commitment to learning from her. She passed away before she could finish her PhD. . .
