@thynillu takeover:⠀ ⠀ Another topical drawing for the current time, based on the mantra of: "the only way out is through, and the only way through is together". Art and creation are always proven to be needed in times like this and hopefully, this can bring a message of hope and unity. ⠀ ⠀ Signing off now! Thank you for having me Intern, stay in touch and sayonara. I’ve been @thynillu, and you’ve been great!

@thynillu takeover:⠀ ⠀ This piece was stemmed from the life-affirming words on the front cover of Guadalupe Ruiz’s fantastic 2018 photo book. ‘Lupita, I’ve kept you an apricot on the tree. I’ve told it to wait for you.’ From a previous project about long-distance love, somehow the relevance of this notion is more present than ever. In this time of uncertainty, we remain connected with those we love.

@thynillu takeover:⠀ ⠀ 'Finding consolation in my isolation': Made in the first week of my isolation and uprooting from my home in Brighton, I used the creation of this comic to work through the resulting disturbance and anxiety, and feel comforted by my new reality. Let’s find consolation in our isolation, do our health service a favour, and stay at home

@thynillu takeover:⠀ ⠀ I chose to create flags bearing the words of my writing, as I'm interested in how this subtle, emotional sentiment can be displayed in a simplified and bold manner. Almost like shouting out your secrets, I intend the viewing as being cathartic, perhaps forcing a dialogue into topics that may not naturally appear in conversations. Have fun with this thought.

@thynillu takeover:⠀ ⠀ the first sense of this project came from the following short piece of my writing, with the first two lines coming from Aldous Huxley’s ‘Island’. ⠀ ⠀ lightly child⠀ lightly⠀ overboard⠀ and floating⠀ sunken⠀ words unspoken leak-proof⠀ flotsam⠀ seasick & swaying⠀ the ambit of understanding⠀ it’s catching⠀ stick or twist⠀ swallow⠀ then spit

@thynillu takeover:⠀ ⠀ hi ! this is Christy Thynne taking over for Intern. I am a final year Illustration student at Brighton, and over the next few days, I’ll be sharing some of my recent work with you. The next three images are from a project about feeling lost at sea, which began with a short piece of my writing. Words play a huge role in the early stages of my projects and flotsam & jetsam literally mean marine debris, but to me, this also signifies that sense of being adrift with yourself. @daphnetsang_design takeover:⠀ ⠀ Last but not least, this is my latest project as a student at MA GMD, LCC. I made a visual discourse on Hong Kong’s problematic architectural projects. One side of the publication is flipped to allow other participants to engage with the debate on whether they think utopian architectures in Hong Kong are a good idea.⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Well, it’s time for me to wrap up now. A massive thank you to @thisisintern⠀ for having me! It’s been a pleasure! <3

@daphnetsang_design takeover:⠀ ⠀ My studies at Kingston allowed me to test, experiment on whatever I wished and I encourage students to do the same as well! I didn’t feel like throwing them away so I made a folder reminding myself that this is important within my practice.

@daphnetsang_design takeover:⠀ ⠀ This is a palm-sized publication based on the English author, Sheridan Morley’s rare music box collection after visiting his archive at Kingston University Archives and Special Collections. The publication is embossed to mimic the teeth comb of the mechanical elements inside of the musical box.

@daphnetsang_design takeover:⠀ ⠀ Hello everyone! I'm Daphne Tsang and I’m from Hong Kong. I’m a recent graduate from Kingston School of Art and a current student at London College of Communication’s studying MA Graphic Media Design. ⠀ ⠀ I’m flattered to have @thisisintern asking me to take over and I’m happy to share my projects with you all. This is a publication for my dissertation during my undergraduate studies at Kingston. My curiosity for Chinese takeaway fonts has led me to discover websites that sell t-shirts with racial slurs against East Asians along with the font in use. Some are also not aware of the slur as well. I feel like this is an important issue especially in the age of political correctness, and that East Asians often encounter microaggressions in their lives.
