HEY! I’m Gabby 😊🪂🌴 Here’s a quick and dirty ‘About Me’ ⠀ ☞ 24. Leo. Born in Oceanside, CA, living in the DMV. Bachelors in Statistics and minor in Middle Eastern Studies. ⠀ ☞ In Feb 2020 I pressed ▶️ on my 3 year plan to quit my job and travel the world. And then a global pandemic hit 🙃 Check out my past IGTVs for how that’s going. ⠀ ☞ What does Packs Light mean? It means try not to carry mental or physical baggage with me in life, or in my travels. Pax also means “peace” in Latin, so I try to be peace & light. ⠀ ☞ My mom is white, my dad is Black (🇯🇲). Two of my sisters are Japanese and Black. When my sister was 8 she told me she thought I was white because my skin is lighter than hers. I cried because she’s clearly being forced to try to make these discernments already. I have both privilege and pain as a lighter skinned Black woman. But I am always BLACK. ⠀ ☞ I am EXTREMELY positive person–not by nature, but by choice. In Nov 2019 I did a TEDx talk on Delusional Confidence. I think we need it more than ever right now. ⠀ ☞ I help young people travel the world for free by sharing Packs Light Travel opps. I’ve been awarded $75,000+ in cultural exchanges, international programs, and travel contests. Making incredible things accessible is what I really really love to do! 🌍💸 ⠀ ☞ I love to travel because it makes me feel the most alive I can be. In a new place, engaging all of my senses, feeling every single memory being made in time. And by learning other people’s stories I feel like I get to live a bit of their lives too. ⠀ ☞ The only thing bigger than my hair is my abundance mentality 👩🏽🦱 There is room enough for every single one of us to succeed and be happy at the same time. So let’s help each other do it! ⠀ ☞ This account is INCLUSIVITY, BLACK-EMPOWERMENT, EDUCATION, INSPIRATION, INSIGHT, ADVENTURE only ⠀ If you’ve read this far you definitely consistently reached Gold in Accelerated Reader in middle school and I vibe with that 😂 ⠀ 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗺𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲! BLACK OWNED FOOD SPOTS IN SAN DIEGO ✊🏽 [SAVE + SHARE] I wrote this article in Fall 2019 because I was going to San Diego for weeks at a time for my job. Since I was there for extended periods of time I decided to buy Black and look for Black-owned restaurants in there area, but no lists existed. ⠀ Considering San Diego’s Black population is only 6.4% I knew they needed as much bolstering as possible. That article I wrote is now benefiting the Black restaurants and eateries in the area 10x over, been featured in CondeNaste and on a local news station! It’s unfortunate that I’ve had to fight to be credited on multiple versions of my list that have been copied (in order. by non-Black people 🙃) by multiple people as the #BlackLivesMatter movement spun up... And I’m still trying to be correctly credited as it’s featured in larger publications. It’s taking a lot of energy and right now that’s not something I have a lot of. ⠀ Though the ends don’t justify the means, I don’t want to bash anyone who used my content. Y’all know me and I’d rather put my focus on the AMAZINGLY positive result for these food spots! ⠀ For weeks I emailed back and forth, sat in many of these food spots, ate their food, and learned the Black food community by making my list last year and to see them getting their glory now is extremely gratifying. @spoiledvegans SOLD OUT in 15 minutes and gained 2000+ followers! @rhythmschickenandwaffles has had 4x increase in wait time from all of the orders! Swipe for my now updated list and please share 🙏🏽 Continue to support Black businesses, CREDIT Black creators AFTER this settles down.
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 More galvanizing, poetic, beautiful words have been wrote about Black people’s right to life than I could ever say. The best thing I can do is to raise their voices. Take action: Follow @theconsciouskid Follow @nowhitesaviors Support Black creators Buy from Black businesses Mentor Black youth Raise Black voices Vote for and actively engage with elected officials and advocate for Black safety, retraining, protective laws I’ve shared a document in my IG stories Anti-Racism Resources. Educate yourselves. It includes: Resources for white parents to raise anti-racist children, articles to read, videos to watch, podcasts to subscribe to, books to read, films and TV series to watch, more orgs to follow on social media, and more anti-racism resources to explore. If you say you care you need to take the time. I MORE than understand not every white people is a bad person, or a racist person. But every white person has ability to weaponize their privilege on a whim at the expense of Black lives. ⠀ Don’t wait for a status you can like, IG you can repost, or TikTok you can comment on. If you care, use YOUR voice and YOUR platform to prove it. POCs, too. ⠀ If you’re committed to erasing racism and protecting Black lives, please comment “I care and I will speak up”
I want to see sights where there are no words and feel things I can’t translate ☁️
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻? 👜✨ ⠀ I’m asked this question a lot so I wanted to share for my new followers. ⠀ She who 𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑘𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 does not drag unnecessary baggage around, mentally or physically. Instead she chooses to bring light—positivity, knowledge, and inspiration—wherever she goes. I also chose “packs” because it’s a verb! I’m living it, present tense, every day. ⠀ I named my business Packs Light so that no matter where I travel or what I do I remind myself of my why and my purpose ✈️💫

ℳℴ𝓃ℯ𝓎 𝒯𝒶𝓁𝓀: One of my favorite college streams of income to save for travel—market research studies [share & save!] ⠀ I don’t do them as much anymore cuz I be workin’, but when I see easy shmoney... I just completed one on social media usage for $200 this week! One hour on the phone talking about what devices I use social media on, for how long, and why. In college I would do them as often as possible and throw that money directly into my travel savings. Sophomore year it paid for my flight for my Spring Break trip through London, Bath, and Winchester, England 🇬🇧 ⠀ COVID-19 I think has made them even more numerous and on topics that more people can participate in. Have you ever participated in an online research study? ⠀ OG posted on TikTok @packslight, follow me there for more quick tips 😌
