Last trip was a bit of a mess with first forgetting my phone and driving back to get it and then after arriving to the lake realising I had also forgot all my flies at home. Fortunately Risto was feeling generous and gave me one fly to fish with for the day. Unfortunately I lost the fly just at the end of the day, sorry Risto, but managed to catch some fish before calling it a day and one of them was decent sized. Oldie but goldie. On the other end of the spectrum from that super simple caddis from the previous post. One of the last realistics I tied before getting fully in to the rabbit hole that is classic salmon flies. I’ve been thinking about making some again for a long time but have had too many fishing flies to tie lately to make the effort. A simple CDC-caddis. Works like a charm. Vary size and colors to match the hatch. 1. Attach a single CDC feather by the tip and twist it. 2. Wrap the twisted feather forward, tie off and trim the excess. 3. Tie the tips of 2-4 CDC feathers to form a wing. 4. Trim the butts of the wing feathers and dub some CDC to cover them. You can use the leftovers from the wings but proper CDC-dubbings is easier alternative.
