"We're stagnating like a packet of crisps on the roof." - Morris Moss, IT Crowd . When I started posting on IG 2 years ago, I subconsciously tried to fit in. . I went to 'Instagram' places. . I wore the kind of clothes I thought people liked (aka those that everyone wore). . I took the kind of pics that - back then maybe not as much but nowadays - EVERYONE takes. . And I wrote the kind of one liner captions (about bubble gum walls or BS along the lines of "I woke up like this") thinking that's what people want to read. . Did that provide #value or stand out in any way? ... yep this is a rethorical question. . So this is the end of it 🙅🏻 . No more pretending or trying to fit in. . From now on I'm just going to be myself around here. . The picture above is from my recent €6.80 day trip to the #MekongDelta in the South of Vietnam. . No plan or IG photo agenda that day. . No makeup (even if you tried, it would just run down in your sweat of excitement and mainly heat in the 35 degree weather). . A €4 dress from a local Vietnamese shop. . No English (or very little from our guide who much preferred Chinese; check the story highlights if you want to see what was really going on that day). . But nonetheless: lots of FUN and living in the moment ☺️ #keepitreal #authenticitymatters #powerofnow #vietnamflashbacks

Vulnerability is the cornerstone of confidence. . Only when you allow yourself to take the risk to be open, to live as a whole hearted person, you recognise that you're really just like everybody else. And that gives you the confidence to be yourself. . This is all you really need in life: TO BE MORE OF YOURSELF. . Oprah Winfrey ✨#VulnerabilityIsStrength #ConfidenceFromWithin #StandTall #BeYourself
Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where others see nothing. ~ Camille Pissaro 💫 . Travelling can be an eye-opening experience in many ways. Seeing how people in other parts of the world often live a much simpler yet surprisingly happier life made me realise how blessed and at the same time cursed we are in the West. . We have so many things but we are constantly yearning for more. We want both material and non material things, such as cooler friends, a better boyfriend or titles and promotions at work. We end up focusing on what we don't have and are filled with feelings of envy, sadness and anxiety. . Seeing how content all these people are who live in relatively simple standards was like a wake up call for me. Now I regularly express #gratitude for what I already have and hardly ever go back to my old habit of thinking of what I still need to get or what I haven't achieved yet. . #gratituesday #humbleyourself #gratitudeattitude #traveldeeper
Every time you give someone the power to build you up with praise, you're also unknowingly giving that person the power to destroy you with criticism. . Therefore, accept praise and criticism as nothing more than someone else's expression of their models of reality. . They have nothing to do with who you really are. . YOU WERE BORN ENOUGH. . You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. . Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path; and that will make all the difference. . "Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." ~ Marcus Aurelius ✨ . As I'm writing this I'm sitting in Bangkok airport, waiting for my connection flight to Siem Reap. It's hot (aircon must be broken), busy and LOUD. And while this 'sweaty chaos' would've annoyed me a year ago, now I find it fun and it almost has a soothing effect on me (now, who's weird?! 😳). I usually get to think a lot on flights and this time I was reflecting about my trip so far. But not so much about the countries I've visited - I just finished 2 weeks in Myanmar and yes, I'm a 'little bit' behind with my posts 😉 - but rather about the way I travel and how this has shaped my experience. Being German it's probably somehow programmed into our DNA to plan things, be organised and basically get s**t done 🤓 I used to do be like that too but it also led to a certain degree of stress and anxiety for me because I used to overthink things and got upset when things didn't work out the way I had anticipated. So over the past year I started to shift away from this mindset and have now reached a point where I plan as little as possible and rather take life as it comes. As a result I had some of the best experiences on my travels: From randomly accompanying a new friend to a local Vietnamese hairdresser and enjoying the most relaxing head massage (for 1€!) to getting up in the middle of the night to sit on the back of a Korean girl's motorbike who I only met a few hours before and together witnessing a beautiful sunset over Bagan - none of this was in any way planned and that's what made it even more fun 😃 I'm by no means saying that this is the only way to travel but it's just what works for me 🙌🏻 . So now I'm curious about you guys: Do you prefer planning in advance (that can be half the fun) and sticking to a schedule when travelling? 🗓 Or do you like arriving in a country without much of a plan and just go with the flow? 🌊 #TravelDeeper #TravellersNotebook
Mens sana in corpore sano. (Latin for: “A healthy mind in a healthy body”) 🙏🏻 . Visiting Vietnam for the first time was an incredible experience. What definitely helped was that I didn’t have any expectations before arriving there. That way the country kept surprising with me with more and more amazing things. One of these things was the variety of vegetarian and vegan food options available in nearly all restaurants and even at most street food stalls. While I’m hesitant to call myself vegan at this stage, I have started trying to live as much plant based as possible. The reason for this is that one of my best friends recently became vegan and recommended me to watch @forksoverknives . I was a bit sceptical at first but ended up watching it together with my mum when I was home for Christmas. The documentary shows the health benefits of eating plant based and some of the things were so simple yet shocking. As a result, both my mum (who’s 60 years old btw) and I completely changed our diet: We stopped eating meat and are trying to avoid animal products, such as eggs and milk, as much as we can. I’ve been feeling amazing ever since and don’t think I’m gonna eat meat anytime soon 🙂 Obviously, it can be tricky to find vegan options in your local supermarket and even more when you’re travelling. So you can imagine my excitement when I realised that there were so many vegan dishes and even entire vegan restaurants and cafés in Vietnam. Some of my favourites in Saigon are Note Café (to die for coconut latte frappuccinos), Bookworm Café (delicious vegan crêpes for breakfast) and… this is a tricky one: Com Chay Chan Nhu II (all you can eat vegan buffet for around 1 euro – do I need to say more?!) ❤️🌿🥕🥒🍅
When you try to look happy and relaxed but are actually seeing 30 Chinese tourists approaching behind the photographer who are about to walk into the shot. #justbreathe #stoiclifestyle #xiexie 🎑 . This is my first time in Vietnam and at this stage I'm honestly asking myself: "Why didn't I come here earlier?!" Aside from the fact that it's by far the cheapest of the South East Asian countries in terms of food, accommodation, transport etc, I love the people here and the fact that there aren't as many tourists as in Thailand for example. This time I've only seen the South of the country but I'm coming back end of March to explore the North and see Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An, Halong Bay and much more 🙌🏻☺️ . Wearing 👗 @arnhem_clothing
"Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ✨ . After being in Vietnam for 5 days I can safely say that the people here are even friendlier and more helpful than I expected ❤️ My first 2 days I spent in Ho Chi Minh City at @lemeridiensaigon . They literally had the most attentive staff ever who also helped me organise my onward journey to Mui Ne and I'm so happy to finally explore this beautiful country 😊 . The funny thing is that I actually had issues leaving Frankfurt airport because my itinirary wasn't too "straight forward" for the airline staff and for a moment I was worried my whole trip could be cancelled. But after 20 minutes of discussion and checking with various supervisors they let me fly. Logically I was a bit afraid of the immigration process in Vietnam after this. But luckily it ended up being the smoothest and fastest thing ever and the immigration officer didn't seem to care if I was gonna leave the country again or not. He just kept smiling at me and stamped my passport 😃 PS: I am leaving again btw, in 8 days to Myanmar to be precise. And I'm currently trying to plan my itinerary and onward journey from there, so any tips and recommendations are welcome ☺️🙌🏻✈️ #LeMeridienSaigon #LeMeridienHotels #DestinationUnlocked
