GENDER OF ENGAGERS FOR JORISDERAEDT
I recently gave this old illustration of a Common Redshank a little update. Another advantage of working digitally.
This year #worldwetlandday put it’s focus on the global issue of decreasing fresh (drinking) water. Less then 1% of all water on our planet is usable. Wetlands are not only important to us as natural fresh water reservoirs, but many animals relay on them and they have a very important role to keep balance to our ecosystems. Black-tailed Godwits main threat is the draining of wetland habitat to make room for agriculture. As their breeding grounds become more concentrated, predation is much more likely with declining populations as a result. Happy 50th birthday to @ramsar_convention_on_wetlands 🎂 Keep up the good work!
It’s my mom’s 60th birthday today 🎂🥳 Here’s the card I made for her, inspired on the Willow Tits that regularly visit the birdfeeder in the garden.
Another most exciting visitor in the garden today! With five feeding stations surrounding the house there are plenty of songbirds around, a big part of the Pygmy Owl’s diet.
I can get used to having my studio in the Swedish forests. Just encountered a Golden eagle when getting some air. Such an impressive creature!
Recently I was trying hard to see a Siberian Jay here in Sweden. They didn't show, but we were surprised by a Pygmy Owl that perched in a spruce above us. These little guys never bore. Here are some illustrations I made years ago for my book on Raptors and Owls.
Some sketches of a great day on Tallåsberget. It was sad to see that a big part of the forest was cut and my favourite bird feeding station was no more. Nevertheless I had some great observations including these Black Grouses. A fun challenge, sketching in -20°C
Best wishes everyone!! 🎄🥂🍾
If you are supporting @natuurpunt you might already have seen my illustration of a Eurasian Lynx in their magazine Natuur.blad 📰 Great timing with the recently new trail camera footage proving a Lynx has settled in Belgium again!
Here it is, the newest edition of @bahamontes_magazine with my watercolor on the cover! There might be limited edition prints available in the near future. If you’re interested DM me and keep tuned.
Recently I was asked to make an illustration for the cover of the famous @bahamontes_magazine with as theme “Strange Birds”. An assignment that would take me out of my comfort zone with a short deadline. I took on the challenge and made a 70x100cm watercolor. We’ll see the result on Thursday, when the magazine hits the shelves, but in the meantime here are some snaps of the WIP.
#throwbackthursday This drawing was commissioned for the petting zoo at the Kalba Bird of Prey centre, my very first assignment as a full time illustrator. Aside from the identification drawings I was also asked to make some graphic illustrations about the animals characteristics 🐪✍🏻
