TIP # 4 — 𝓣𝓡𝓤𝓢𝓣 𝓨𝓞𝓤𝓡 𝓟𝓗𝓞𝓣𝓞𝓖! We know how good it feels to have a hair stylist you trust, a tattoo artist you trust, or even a consistent go-to entrée at your favorite restaurant… you just KNOW you can show up, sit in their chair, and they’re going to deliver exactly what you want. You can relax + you count on them. Guess what - the same is true with photographers! The part where it gets tricky is a lot of people don’t have their photo taken consistently as they do with touching up their balayage. So, trust can get overlooked, or if you DO realize it’s importance - it can feel hard to find. How can you find a photographer you trust so that you can relax in peace knowing they’re going to capture all of the little moments of your wedding day, including, but not limited to, ones where we are more vulnerable? Long story short, obviously you look at their work and make sure they are consistent in what they make… but with all of the talented photographers there are in the world these days — simply put; you gotta vibe it out. Start searching for your photog early on in the wedding planning process. Connect with them, converse with them through comments on their IG, DM’s… see how they are conversing with the other people in their comments already… based on their language, style, and interactions — do you get a feeling like you’d get along with them? That you’d like how you look through their eyes, their perspective? Do you want to have them around you, as part of your squad, all day on your wedding day? Do you think their personality would be an asset to your day? Long story short; It’s super important to trust your photog, and ALL of your wedding vendors. You want to be able to wake up on your wedding day and just KNOW that these people - this team that you’ve assembled - they’re gonna do their thing and work their asses off for you that day, no questions asked. And once you have that trust - just breathe, and try not to worry. I know it can be stressful, we’re self-conscious, we’re stressed, we’re excited, we’re this, we’re that.. but the feeling of knowing someone’s got your back… that shit is PRICELESS! ⚡️#amindavillaWEDDING #weddingtips
Deep in the market! Rich with light, color, smells, sounds, character and life. All senses awakened. So amazing. ✖️#granadanicaragua #discovernicaragua #groceryshopping #amindavillaSTREET
TIP # 3 — 𝓓𝓘𝓣𝓒𝓗 𝓣𝓗𝓔 𝓕𝓘𝓔𝓛𝓓𝓢! If you’re not a field-of-flowers type of couple… then don’t feel obligated to take your wedding pictures in a field of flowers. That sounds obvious, but sometimes we see SO much wedding imagery in these “EPIC” scenes of soft tall grass, the Rocky Mountains, or lush green fields and we just assume we should do that too. While that’s all fine and dandy… it’s not for everyone, myself included. I prefer concrete, neon signs, and a different kind of beauty — one full of grit, urban character, and signs of imperfections and worn-in-ness that seems to comfort me. So, if you don’t want to frolic in a field on your wedding day, don’t! Where did you/where do you want to take your wedding day photos? Did you actually prefer a field and nature environment, or did you/do you want to take your photos in… I don’t know, in front of a cool looking diner? PS. Both of these women are wearing gowns are from @thewhiteroommpls and aren’t they just INCREDIBLE? The concrete really makes them POP!!! ⚡️#amindavillaWEDDING #weddingtips #weddingphotos #urbanwedding #untraditionalwedding
I was already in the routine of getting up early, and because of that, I was aware that around 5-6 AM is when the market is REALLY buzzing – not with customers, but with the people who work there. Everyone is setting up their booth, sweeping, and receiving their morning deliveries. The men who deliver the food from the farms to the markets - they amaze me. If they’re not throwing vegetables from the truck to the stall owner in an assembly line of sorts, then they’re balancing giant baskets full on their heads. It’s chaos and craziness, loud and busy, everyone knows their place except for me – wandering around, weaving myself in with my big eyes and little camera. Intimidated, I still document. Far away at first, then magically my confidence grows. Well – maybe not my confidence, but definitely my excitement, which seems to mask the fear. It’s similar to a wedding day… accelerating from slight terror to thrill in a matter of 12 hours. This was my last day at the market, so once I spotted the truck, I had a thought; instead of shooting from my own perspective, as a passer-by, I decided to drown myself in fear and ask the guys on the delivery truck if I could come ON the truck with them and photograph them working. I crept up, taking pictures along the way, testing the waters… finally I was so close, snapping the veins in the oldest man’s face, I looked up and asked, in Spanish, if I could jump on. Slightly confused, but still without hesitation, one of the boys reached down at me with his hand and helped pull me up into the back of their truck, which now had room for all of us, being that the majority of the baskets for the day had been delivered. They offered me a mamón chino, and kept working, almost paying no attention to my being there at all. After about 15 minutes of me documenting their sweat and labor, I thanked them and *continued in comments*
TIP # 2 — 𝓑𝓐𝓘𝓛𝓐, 𝓑𝓐𝓘𝓛𝓐, 𝓑𝓐𝓘𝓛𝓐! *in ozuna voice* No matter if you’re having a big reception, or eloping and only spending the night with your spouse — chances are you’re going to dance. And if you’re going to dance, you might as well fucking go for it. And if you’re truly fucking going for it, chances are you’re having a blast. If you’re having a blast, and you’re there with people you love the most, chances are it’ll be one of the absolute BEST nights of your life... and for the rest of your life you’ll love reminiscing back on how it felt to scream Beyoncé lyrics at the top of your lungs with your sister, or to act a fool busting out that dance you made up back in 8th grade with your BFFs who you’ve been DYING to spend time btw with for SO long but, as we all know, it’s difficult to make the time as adults… you’ll remember how many FUCKS you absolutely did not GIVE as you dropped it real low without thinking about coming back up… 😂 So do it; DANCE, DANCE, DANCE, and don’t you even THINK about holding back! ⚡️#amindavillaWEDDING #weddingtips #weddingpizza #weddingmeal #weddingdinner #untraditionalwedding
Rust and Spanish and bold letters... OH MY! 🦁 🐅 🐻 Tip #2 of 5 coming at you tomorrow!#amindavillaSTREETSHIT #oldsigns #spanishsignage #boldtext
I’m going to be posting 5 tips on how to make your wedding actually feel like YOUR wedding, how to make it overall way more enjoyable, and also how to get the most amazing, badass, unique, incredible wedding photos you want. Take these with a grain of salt… and a lime. …and tequila. Ok, here we go! ⚡️ TIP #1 — 𝓕𝓤𝓒𝓚 𝓒𝓐𝓚𝓔! Yooooo, if you love cake, more power to ya. Cake it up. But in my experience, most people just have cake because they think they should — because that’s what you always see, it’s what you “should” do. So ask yourselves: do you want to cut a cake… or do you want to cut a pizza? Or maybe you want to cut halva? Or do you not want to cut anything? Maybe you want cupcakes, donuts, cotton candy… Or do you just want to eat bomb-ass sushi with your 10 closest friends and spouse and skip dessert entirely?? The point here isn’t to talk shit on pastries… it’s to remind you that you can eat whatever the f.u.c.k you want. Remaining tips coming soon, as well as a giveaway to my 2019 wedding clients just cuz I love ya’ll. ⚡️#amindavillaWEDDING #weddingtips #weddingpizza #weddingmeal #weddingdinner #untraditionalwedding
NO ESTACIO NARSE! NO PARKING! ⚡️Thank you to this beautiful man for walking into my frame at the perfect moment... about 1% of the time, the waiting pays off on the street. It teaches me patience while shooting, and an appreciation for unpredictable moments. ⚡️#amindavillaSTREET #discovernicaragua #nicaraguastreets #granadanicaragua #spanishsignage
Fall in Minnesota... it's such a cozy vibe. I’m gonna explode. Can we freeze time for a little bit? ⚡️#amindavillaLOVERS #motorcyclecouple #stpaulminnesota
This is my 𝖋𝖆𝖛𝖔𝖗𝖎𝖙𝖊 𝖕𝖍𝖔𝖙𝖔 that I took in Nicaragua.. why? Because it makes me feel how Nicaragua made me feel — how all of the Latin American counties I’ve visited make me feel, actually. Everyone seems so close — physically and emotionally. Uncomfortably close, but the good kind of discomfort…I think it’s because I’m not used to such closeness, but crave it on some level. Family is everything, deeply. I don’t know for sure, but I have a feeling the older girl who is guiding the younger one is her sister. I’ve seen so many examples of tight-knit families in Latin America, from a family of 5 riding on one single motorcycle, to the way Nestor visits his parents’ house every single Saturday, and so much more — it’s just… incredible. It’s warm. The colors, the the heat, everything — it’s just… intense, passionate, and maybe to some of us who aren’t from there; chaotic…. chaotic to me, completely normal to them. Think of the biggest hug you’ve EVER received… the one that lasted one second too long, completely past your hug-time-limit… even though, when you think about it, it wasn’t “too long” at all — it was actually just long enough… long enough to force you into letting go and actually surrender to the embrace, to really feel it. And a few other things, but I’ve got to leave some room for your own interpretation, right? 🖤 #nicaragua #granadanicaragua #streetsofnicaragua #amindavillaSTREET #lessonsfromtraveling #journalentry #discovernicaragua
