In the countries where we work, like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, women are trapped in a complex web of ongoing conflict, instability, disease, extreme gender discrimination, and poverty. On International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, and every day, we celebrate and uplift women survivors of war and conflict who overcome these barriers using knowledge, skills, and resources they’ve gained in our Signature Program. Our latest randomized control trial in the DRC demonstrates that after graduation program participants increased their earning, saving, assets, and access and use of credit. On #GlobalHandwashingDay, and every day, we’re celebrating women leading the fight against infection and invisible killers like #COVID19, with soap and water. Did you know, in areas of conflict, disease is one of the biggest killers? Yet, something as easy, effective, and inexpensive as soap and water can protect the lives of those who stand to fall the hardest. But, in the communities where we work, practicing safe hygiene can be extremely difficult due to a lack of resources such as clean water and soap.
