What are you most looking forward to travel-wise after lockdowns are lifted, borders reopen and flights start back up? For me it's: ❤️ A campervan roadtrip around my own backyard, all over NZ! 🧡 Heading back to the Philippines to finish the tour we started 💛 Visiting Japan during cherry blossom season in 2021 🤞 💚 Catching up with one of my besties in Canada and another in the UK 💙A family trip to Bali 💜 Being able to focus on intentional and sustainable travel that helps support local communities 💗 Finally making it back to San Diego eight years after I studied there for six months! Tell me what's on your post-pandemic wander list! 📍 Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland, aka a real-life fairytale village. At the start of my Switzerland trip I had a night in Zurich and stayed at the gorgeous @25hourshotels, super close to the central train station, next level breakfast, comfy rooms. Ideal! 🚆 Switzerland travel tip: I explored using a Swiss Travel Pass from Klook which covered loads of local trains and gave me discounted rates on transport up the big mountains too! Brilliant value for money, a must-have for any Switzerland adventure. @klook_uk #switzerland #myswitzerland #visitswitzerland #dametraveler #damestravel
What's the most colourful place you've ever been? This has got to be one of mine, Jodhpur in India 😍 Jodhpur is bright and sunny all year so the houses are painted blue to keep them cool. I booked a private tour of the city on the Klook app and it was superb! My local guide was one of the city's best, he taught me loads about the city's history and we visited Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada cenotaph and the markets too. I stayed at the gorgeous and super peaceful Almond Tree homestay, an absolute oasis away from the craziness of the city. See more of my Jodhpur adventures in my India highlight! @klook_uk @almondtreejdh

Time for a check in 👋🏼 how are we all going? What's the situation like where you're from? In NZ we're 9 days into a 28-day (at least) lockdown, no leaving your home except for essential travel like to work for essential workers, groceries, or local exercise. No contact whatsoever with anyone outside your household or work (in most cases). This isn't your usual travel post sorry but I wanted to give a quick shout out to my friends who are most affected by this crisis ♥️ I have many friends who are nurses, including two of my besties. One is an ED nurse at NZ's biggest hospital so literally right on the frontline, who is asthmatic so is higher risk and is also a national rep athlete dealing with the high likelihood her world champs will be cancelled. So insanely proud of her (and all my medical friends!) and all she's doing to keep other people safe ♥️ My other nurse BFF is a blood donation nurse who will appreciate me telling you all that blood donation is an ESSENTIAL SERVICE, so if you are healthy and well, please make an appt to donate! In NZ you can call them on 0800 GIVE BLOOD, they've got super strict hygiene measures (as usual but even more so in times like this), and they need donations to maintain their supply. You'll save lives and as a bonus you'll get cookies afterwards 😉 Loads of my friends are expats that live overseas, far from family and a security blanket, dealing with crazy rent and minimal job security, with the ticking clock of a work visa in the background ♥️ I've got pregnant friends, who are having to grapple with the idea of not being able to have any family around when the baby is born ♥️ And I've got friends and family who are business owners, desperately trying to support their staff while also dealing with ongoing business costs and zero income ♥️ Just another reminder that every single person on the planet is affected by this. Reach out to old friends, keep in contact with your loved ones who are abroad, support our essential workers however you can, don't panic buy, look after yourself. Much love! 💙💙💙 📍 Venice, Italy with my galpal & professional skirt-swisher @melcoulam 💃🏼

💛 How are you guys? But for real, truly, how are you? 💛 I've held off posting on here because to be honest I've found it difficult to articulate the thoughts, worries and ideas racing through my mind. Which is unlike me! I'm a stickler for efficiency and organisation (except in terms of my room lol sorry mum) so not being able to compartmentalise everything, and being bombarded with more and more statistics, case numbers and bad news about this unprecedented* time we're living in, is super unsettling. Couple that with being at a complete standstill in life and career, with zero income for the foreseeable future, and next to no direction or timeline... Not super fun! But HEY, we are all in this together aren't we. If anyone is going through the motions (and emotions) of cancelled travels, huge life changes, moving continents, being somewhere they didn't think they'd be, lost income, worry about the future, I feel that too. My DMs are wide open if anyone wants to chat. And for those of you have lost jobs, have families to provide for, are high risk, have sick family members, are working on the frontline, I can't imagine what you're going through but I'm still here to listen if you need. The internet is a weird place at the moment, with dystopian headlines (👎🏼) next to kitchen dance parties (👍🏼) with a sprinkle of coronavirus memes, home fitness ideas and conspiracy theories in between. IF you feel overwhelmed by social media right now, please take some time off it, or reconsider who you follow. Scaremongering? Unfollow. Complacency and not following rules? Unfollow. Anyone who makes you feel bad about yourself? Unfollow. It's never been more important, in these times of self-isolation, social distancing and heightened anxiety, to take your mental wellbeing seriously. Sending love to everyone right now, and extra love to those who have been affected financially or health-wise 💛 OKAY now back to regularly scheduled programming: 📍 Rotterdam, the Netherlands! Swipe to see my super cute hotel hub at @cityhub 😍 perfect spot for laptop time @asusuk
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY GAL PALS! Let's all take this day to appreciate the incredible women in our lives 👯♀️ tag the ladies who you want to send love to today! I want to give a special shout out to: 💃🏼 My fellow solo female travellers 💃🏼 All my travel buddies that I've met along the way 💃🏼 The female content creators who inspire me on the daily 💃🏼 Any girl out there who is planning their first big adventure 💃🏼 My best friends who deal with my total inability to commit to life plans in advance 💃🏼 The friends I don't get to see often but who are always supporting my content (I see you 💕) 💃🏼 All the incredible women I've had the pleasure of working with in the travel industry 💃🏼 Any ladies who are working on themselves or trying to overcome a challenge 💃🏼 My cousins, aunties and grandmother 'cause they're all amazing 💃🏼 My mum who is probably the greatest woman on the planet 💃🏼 MYSELF because surviving (and thriving) after 9 months of solo travel around the world isn't luck, it's a whooole lot of hard work, discipline, planning and resilience, so damn right I'm gonna pat myself on the back for that And here's a collection of some my favourite quotes about women, would love to hear yours! "What's the greatest lesson a woman should learn? That since day one, she's already had everything she needs within herself, it's the world who convinced her she did not." - rupi kaur 💛 "She remembered who she was and the game changed." - Lalah Delia 💛 "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." - Gloria Steinem 💛 "A girl should be two things: who and what she wants." - Coco Chanel 💛 "Well-behaved women seldom make history." - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich 💛 "Empowered women empower women." - Unknown 💛 📍 Taj Mahal, Agra, India, on my road trip with @kalkatravelsindia 🇮🇳 some tips: get to the Taj first thing to get the best chance at good photos, buy tickets online on the @klook_uk app for fastest entry, and book a photographer if you want to go all out (I booked a shoot with @harsh_traveller 📷)
HOW TO SAVE 💰 IN EXPENSIVE AF COUNTRIES 😬 save this post to refer back to when you plan your next trip, and tell me your best budget tip! Some of my favourite countries are notttt so budget-friendly 😭 Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Australia, Ireland to name a few! But did you know that I actually spent LESS in some of these countries than in India and Vietnam? Here are some ways I keep my spend minimal if I'm visiting somewhere that's way out of my price range. 1️⃣ I'll say it again: Stay. In. Hostels! Choose ones with free breakfast and self-catering facilities, the #1 way I keep costs down. @balmersinterlaken in Switzerland was a god-send, they had a yummy breakfast available plus a full kitchen plus incredible staff who saved me from a full on breakdown when I lost my wallet! 2️⃣ Find a big supermarket, or even better, a farmers' market. Convenience stores in tourist areas have tourist prices, so to get fresh, cheap food look for a local supermarket chain or a weekend market. 3️⃣ Look for free activities and things to see. Switzerland is a beauty for this because they can't charge you to look at mountains 😍 although they can charge you a bomb for trains to get up the mountains, which brings me to... 4️⃣ Check transport passes. Cities generally have unlimited public transport passes and also city cards which include transport plus activities, and some countries and regions (Japan, Switzerland, all of Europe) have rail passes that are MUCH cheaper than booking train tickets separately. You can buy these on the Klook app or website! 5️⃣ Be flexible with timing. Travelling in the low season brings lower prices and fewer crowds, and flying on Tuesdays is generally cheaper than other days of the week. 6️⃣ Take a free walking tour. These are available in almost every city in Europe and in many other cities around the world too, you just tip at the end. 7️⃣ If you're a student or under 31, get an ISIC or IYTC card and get travel, food and lifestyle discounts all around the globe. 8️⃣ Find travel buddies. Ask friends or family to join you so you can split costs, or make hostel friends to do day trips with!
Let's bust some myths about HOSTELS, TAG your friends who refuse to stay in hostels so you can enlighten them 😉 So many people think hostels mean gross rooms with 10 sets of clanking metal bunk beds, and so they decide to spend 2/3/4x the price staying at a shitty hotel instead. Don't do this anymore, it eats your budget AND you miss out on epic places like @kosonecanggu hostel in Bali! HOSTEL MYTHS 🙅🏼♀️ Hostels are just about partying 🙅🏼♀️ Party hostels do exist but the vast majority of hostels cater to travellers who just want a good time on their trip, and this means quiet hours from 10/11pm, so the revellers can continue in town and the rest of us can sleeeeep. 🙅🏼♀️ Hostels are ugly 🙅🏼♀️ From murals to waterslides to gardens and cafés, some of the hostels I've stayed in have been much easier on the eye than a lot of the hotels I've visited. 🙅🏼♀️ Hostels are just for kids on their gap years 🙅🏼♀️ I would say the average age of the hostel-goers that I meet would be mid-20s to mid-30s, and there are plenty more above that age range too (like the badass grandad I met in Jerusalem who did magic tricks for everyone in our dorm!). 🙅🏼♀️ Hostels aren't safe 🙅🏼♀️ The only thing I've ever had stolen in a hostel was my jandals 😭 and I'm going to give that girl the benefit of the doubt because she left a very similar black pair behind (wrong size for meee). Most hostels have lockers so bring your own padlock to secure your stuff. 🙅🏼♀️ But I'll never be able to sleep in a hostel 🙅🏼♀️ Loads of capsule hostels are popping up, with pod-style beds with curtains! Take a pair of silicon earplugs and you'll be sweet, or upgrade to a private room for the best of both worlds. 🙅🏼♀️ Hostels are dirty 🙅🏼♀️ Most hostels are cleaned the same amount, if not more than hotels because people come and go so often! 🙅🏼♀️ I get better value for money at a hotel 🙅🏼♀️ Hostels offer incredible value for money, with central locations, clued up staff, self-catering facilities all for a fraction of the price of a hotel. What's the best hostel you've stayed in?
Who else here has a sweet tooth 🙋🏼♀️ I'm a sucker for any chance to treat myself 😂 so after a long day of exploring I'll always try find a sugary something to enjoy! Anyone have any sweet suggestions for Tokyo, LA, Vancouver or NYC that I can add to my list? Here are some of my best sugary finds around the world, SAVE this post for when you're planning your next trip! ❤️ Fancy stroopwafels from @vanwonderenstroopwafels in Amsterdam 🧡 Cake pops and choc strawberries from @polaberry in Amsterdam 💛 Macarons from @pierrehermeofficial in Paris and @chezfefe in Sofia 💚 Trdelnik (chimney cakes) from GOOD FOOD in Prague 💙 Freakshakes from @inchocghent in Ghent and @blacktap in Dubai & Singapore 💜 Cinnabon OBVS (basic but I don't care) 💗 Cherry blossom ice cream from @milktrain in London Have you discovered any crazy desserts you want to add to the sweet list? 📍Shot at one of the canals in the 9 Streets, Amsterdam 🇳🇱
