Can’t believe this was more than a year ago! Still about posting old shoots that had a lasting impact on me when it comes to personal growth and overall output. This was one of those shoots that I allowed myself to let loose and probably one of the first times that I was 100% trusting my gut. Trust and communication between the model and myself is definitely one of the things I establish first during test shoots because trusting just your gut doesn’t always co-relate with great photos. It’s more of going with your instincts to find out what works and what doesn’t. I remember Liya being such a trooper that day too! We were shooting on a balcony that was probably 3-feet wide and 6 feet long, working in a small space meant that my lens was just inches away from her face and that moving around involved a lot of feet getting stepped on, and getting burnt by the hot railing because we were under 2PM sun! Without her trust in me and my trust in what I believed she could do, the photos from this shoot wouldn’t even come close to how they turned out.
This was a test we has with Katja a couple of years (?) back. Haven’t been shooting tests recently. Kinda lost my mojo 🤷🏻♂️ Been working on myself and my sense of purpose to shoot tests, trying not to go in circles. Also, been having a hard time finding the “right” photos to post eventually leading to the thought that I can’t please everyone. My next couple of posts will be old tests, that may or may not have made it to my feed, but I don’t care anymore 😂 My feed, from this point on, will reflect my preference. Byieeeee!
@agnesreoma of @benandbenmusic Playing the bass was one of my all time dreams. I would watch bass and drum solos as a child (and up until today 🤫) just to see and feel what it’s like to listen to a good bass line. I would also associate playing the bass to going all out and feeling the groove of life at it’s maximum and thought that this was the same when it came to how bassists were outside the studio and off stage. Agnes on the other hand is one of the kindest, genuine, and soft spoken people with such a caring persona which was a surprise for me because when she’s on stage with her bass, it’s like she’s a completely different person! Ben & Ben’s new music video is out now! Don’t forget to check it out! #PagtinginMV
@paolobenjamin_ of @benandbenmusic Probably the person who had the most tiring day in the shoot but was also the biggest trooper! We had two separate days to shoot the band and Pao sadly couldn’t make it to the first one. This meant that we had to shoot and remake the concept (and set up!!!) of his portraits, both day and night, on the same day we were shooting the group photos in both times of the day as well. Pao had the least amount of breaks because we would shoot while the rest of the band was changing, and he’d have to catch up in time for the next layout. He was game to do whatever (which means a lot when I shoot outdoors 😂). Hats off to you bro! You made it happen! Ben & Ben’s new music video is out now! Don’t forget to check it out! #PagtinginMV
@patlasaten of @benandbenmusic During one of the days for the shoot, Pat’s family was incredibly nice to give us a space to prepare, eat, and hang out during down times of the shoot (waiting for the sun to come down) and it truly was one of the more memorable things about this whole production process for me. Everybody had a place to relax and talk and play the instruments around us, to be honest I felt like a Ben that day. PLUS your Mom’s cooking is the bomb, Pat!!! Ben & Ben’s new music video is out now! Don’t forget to check it out! #PagtinginMV
@pochbaretto of @benandbenmusic As also one of the stylists who handles the band, we decided to ask each member to describe their style. Poch was one of those who already knew what he wanted and what would fit/suit him well and this was also the same when it came to the shoot itself. Poch was comfortable in front of the camera but he was also aware of his movements in front of it. He knew what he wanted and started working on it immediately, not wasting time or effort from anybody that was involved. Ben & Ben’s new music video is out now! Don’t forget to check it out! #PagtinginMV
It’s official! This is a photo of DJ SWILLENS! Catch her tonight at The Void from 11PM to 1AM. #dreamersdreamingright
Nothing worth having comes easy.
I love visiting old shoots. It’s something I got from Kevin (@kevinbrentt) and I always rummage through the ol’ storage when I need a good look at: 1. The growth or change in the way I shoot. 2. The things I can improve on when it comes to the over all process. AND 3. When I run out of content to post 😂 Everytime I do this I always try to re-edit a layout or two and I’m amazed by how different it is from the original edit. Large or small, a step to progress is still a step in the right direction. From an old shoot we had with @kenziekinsella_ at Midnight Bonkers (@ejayleung, @paolopineda, @kevinbrentt).
Trefoil. I’ve recently been going through a little dilemma when it comes to the photos I produce and post. It’s been a constant struggle for years to do shoots that would be “accepted” or trendy and this battle with myself has just been getting harder every time it resurfaces. Being a practitioner of this craft for half a decade (this is nothing compared to those who have been here long enough to be responsible for the growth of the industry) has shown me that there really is no better way to know if your photos will be accepted unless you post them, and if they aren’t accepted, then you’ll know what to work on for next time. I came to realize that the only way to get over this is to eliminate the self doubt that I have and to just produce photos that I feel will work. There is no right and wrong, just photos and room for improvement. I guess this was just a long rant of me saying, I’m posting whatever I want from this point on, and I couldn’t care less what other people think! 😂 Thank you to those who have been supportive of my craft and myself in general! You are the driving force that keeps me going! 🤙🏻
Excited to finally share these with everyone! Shot Ben & Ben’s press photos for their new album, Limasawa Street, which is already out on Spotify! Definitely a shoot to remember! Show them some love and listen to the new album 🎧 #benandben #limasawastreet
Sharing a couple if images from a shoot I had with Daniel, styled by Angelina, that we did a couple days back. We just went with it and tried to create something different from everyones comfort zones. We always try to shoot when we travel. It gives us that extra push we didn’t know we needed, or that inspiration we’ve been longing for. I like how I always have that itch to shoot when I’m abroad. I’d like to think of it as a sign that the joy I get from the career I chose (even if it means working from wherever it is we are, in Manila time) is still there.
