Yep, that's a fried chicken sandwich with a claw. It's the work of Michelin-starred chef Chris Bleidorn. Birdbox, his new poultry takeout venture in San Francisco, puts an emphasis on whole-animal, as-fresh-as-it-comes chicken. See the link in our bio for the story. Photo by @edwardazuar
Qantas flight QF787 departed from Sydney on October 10, flying over the Australian metropolis before taking in sights from the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park before returning to Sydney, exactly the same place it took off from. Passenger Ke Huang (@flywithke) took these photos from the window of the flight to nowhere. “To fly at a low height over these locations was truly unique,” Huang told CNN Travel. Stromboli and Filicudi, two beautiful islands in Sicily's Aeolian archipelago, are believed by some to have magical, aphrodisiac powers ideal for those seeking -- or desperately trying to recover -- passion. That's why they're often called the "fertility atolls." Check out the link in our bio for the story. Photos by Silvia Marchetti
These huge ships were previously the pride of cruising fleets including Carnival Cruise Line. Now they've been retired early due to the coronavirus pandemic. Shells of their former selves, they're beached at Aliaga shipyard in Turkey, mid-demolition and ready to be sold for scrap. Check out the link in our bio for the story. Captain Cat Burton worked at British Airways for over four decades. At 58, the senior pilot came out as trans. "People use the word brave, but it's not brave. Coming out in that circumstance is lifesaving. It's that or there is no life," she says. Burton then spent years working with the airline’s diversity team before retiring from British Airways in 2017. She's now a flight instructor and champion for transgender rights and diversity in the flight deck. Check out the link in our bio for her story.
Hyperlocal travel is sometimes the only traveling we can do right now. So our NYC-based crew tried a weekend away in Rockaway Beach, Queens. It's just one of dozens of seaside communities in or near the city. Normally it's a day trip, but we spent the $$$ to stay overnight and even tried it out at the slow (and cheaper) end of the season. Our review is at the link in our bio and please share your favorite spots at any of NYC's beaches.
The Hambrick family has amassed over 76K followers by sharing their insatiable love for travel on Instagram. For now, they’re traveling a lot locally (that’s their airstream stay) and let us in on their future plans: Q❓ - Are you still planning future travel abroad, staying domestic or are you in more of ‘wait and see' mode? A - We're still in wait and see mode for travel outside of our state or by air. Right now, we're easing our way back in, but also would love to take advantage of the perks of virtual school and amazing flight deals. We've seen deals to Europe for under $300 and to South America for under $200. I'm just afraid to pull the trigger as unfortunately not every airline will survive this pandemic -- we don't want to have a lot of money tied up in flights. Q ❓- Has the pandemic changed your view of travel at all? A - It's made me even more of a firm believer in just ‘book the trip.’ January and February were very busy travel months for us and at times I thought maybe we were doing too much. However, now I am so thankful we went and enjoyed those destinations with family and friends. -Monet Hambrick ➡️ @thetravelingchild 📚 "The Traveling Child Goes To" Series #cnntravel
Is fall your favorite season? Is it the crisp apples, the cozy sweaters or the brilliance of changing leaves? Perhaps, we all realize it's our last chance to take long meandering walks before winter turns everything cold and gray. Send us your photos of fall so we can share your love for this season on our channel. We prefer photos from 2020 so we can share how you're finding joy right now. Tag your photos #cnntravelfall and #cnntravel and whimsy is more than welcome. We created a fall foliage tracker to help you know when your local leaves will be at their most colorful.
