Thrilled to officially announce becoming a Partner with Acadium - an organization that is helping people gain real-world experience through apprenticeships! 🙌🏽 I became a mentor at Acadium in July 2020 and had my first apprentice, who developed her social media and content marketing skills under my tutelage at my agency @Syzygy.Social. During that time, I realized how people from underrepresented minorities lack access to digital opportunities so my focus was on these very communities I’m part of. In August 2020, we launched @OurDamnTime, a non-profit that advocates for equality! By tying in the apprenticeship program that we have at our agency, it made sense to connect Syzygy and Our Damn Time (ODT). I was very satisfied with my experience with Acadium so I decided to reach out and see how we could partner up. Acadium generously offered to donate $5 for every person that completes their profile and $15 for those that complete an apprenticeship! ODT has some serious goals for the year: we’re aiming to build up a volunteer base of 1,000 people that we can mobilize to support our cause. We’re going to encourage all of our volunteers to do an apprenticeship through Acadium - the best place to develop your digital marketing skills. If you know anyone who’s interested in a remote apprenticeship, please DM me or click the link in bio! I want to give a special thanks to the Acadium team: Graham, Sydney, Lisa, and Yaz for helping facilitate this partnership. Let’s change the way we learn! Interested in being a mentor and making an impact? DM me! 💪🏽
Happy #NationalComingOutDay 🏳️🌈 It was June 26, 2016 for me after I walked with Airbnb in San Francisco Pride 😊 It’s something that isn’t understood fully if you’re straight because when you “come out,” you risk losing friends, family, and opportunities. If you’ve never had to worry about that, you’re privileged in that way. The world still has a long way to go. We’re here, we’re queer, and we’re not going away 💪🏽
Got my ballot! Who else is voting with me and @mazikeene? 💪🏽 Go to @voteearlyday and request your ballot if you haven’t yet 🗳 Voting is one of the best ways to carry out your civic duty and getting your voice heard so it’s crucial to participate. My DMs are open if you have any questions about voting or contact @ourdamntime ✊🏽 Oh, I’m also a plant parent now 😁 our family is growing thanks to @steward_home 💕
So excited to be launching @BeyondTheQuoteShow with the one and only Jobelle Gacuya (@JobelleCreates)! 🙌🏽 It’s crazy how we got to where we are now because it seemed like it was just yesterday how we were planning on launching this podcast, which was in fact back in July. Even throughout the process before launching, we learned so much. We tapped into skills we haven’t utilized before and learned every weekly meeting we committed to. Is it because we’re both Capricorns? Maybe. But it was because we know that our purpose is to create with a purpose. What fascinates us is that when we read a quote, we all interpret it in some way, apply it differently in our lives, and pass it on in our own unique way. And the reason for that is because of the collective experiences, challenges, and solutions an individual faced throughout their lifetime. With BTQ, we want to specifically highlight the POV of those that have been underrepresented and underestimated for so long. We want to encourage others to live life unapologetically where you don't need permission from people to be yourself. We’re comfortable being in our own skin, but not everyone is, and we’re here to change that. This is where you will feel seen. This is where you will feel heard. This is where you will feel understood. Click the link in bio to start listening (We’re on Spotify and other platforms!)
Can’t believe it’s not summer anymore 🥺
I’m proud to say that our agency, @Syzygy.Social, is one of the most diverse agencies you'll ever come across ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼✊🏻 Please welcome our Apprentice Batch 2 - Q4 2020 👏 We are a minority-led agency that thrives in diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Society says you can't do this, and you can't be that because of who you are -- nope, not here. The assumed weaknesses that society tells us are our strengths. I am confident to say that our success is attributed to the diverse background of the people that work at Syzygy. The reason why diversity is a crucial part of an organization's success is that we're able to come up with unique marketing campaigns using our collective differences that are inclusive. At Syzygy, we have an apprenticeship program that specifically chooses underrepresented minorities to work with us and introduce them to the tech / social media world. Every batch, we have a little bit over 100 applicants and choose a maximum of 4. Apprentices are ingrained in our everyday sessions, and at the end of their 3-month apprenticeship, we offer those that stood out to work with us. I believe an apprenticeship is better than an internship because it doesn't have that negative connotation. Apprentices learn how to manage their time, how to be a leader, how to make decisions, how to find problems & offer solutions, and how to think outside of the box. Even beyond the apprenticeship, we will continue to be a resource for them, and I will personally write a recommendation letter and a RECOMMENDATION VIDEO. What are you doing to make your business more diverse? What initiatives are you doing to uplift underrepresented minorities? A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
One more quarter and 2020 is done. What’s good? 🙊
You never meet the right people at the wrong time because the right people are timeless ✨
Don’t drop it 👀
